ADVANCED SWITCHING MODULES
The SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Directors and the HP Cisco MDS 9513 Director Switch
support the HP SN8000C Fabric 3 Director Module (QW926A). These crossbar modules provide
512 Gbps active backplane full duplex bandwidth per slot as required for specific switching
modules in the MDS 9513 and SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Directors. The HP SN8000C 13-
Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 3 Director Switch (QW927A) includes the Fabric-3 Modules.
NX-OS Release 5.2(2) supports the following Generation 4 8-Gbps Advanced Fibre Channel
switch modules:
• HP SN8000C 8Gb 48-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module (QW925A)
• HP SN8000C 8Gb 32-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module (QW924A)
The HP SN8000C 8Gb Advanced Fibre Channel Modules are supported by the following:
• HP SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switch (AJ905C)
• HP SN8000C 6-Slot Supervisor 2A Director Switch (AE388C)
• HP SN8000C 9-Slot Supervisor 2A Director Switch (AE389C)
• HP Cisco MDS 9513 Director Switch (AJ905B, AJ905A, AE376A)
• HP Cisco MDS 9509 Director Switch with Supervisor-2 Modules (AE389B, AE389A)
• HP Cisco MDS 9506 Director Switch with Supervisor-2 Modules (AE388B, AE388A)
The HP SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switch and the HP Cisco MDS 9513
Director Switch running NX-OS Release 5.2(2) or later can use the Fabric 2 or Fabric 3 modules
to support the HP SN8000C 8Gb 48-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module and the HP SN8000C
8Gb 32-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module. With the HP SN8000C Fabric 3 Director Module,
the 8-Gbps Advanced modules in the SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switch
or the HP Cisco MDS 9513 Director Switch will provide 512 Gbps active backplane full duplex
bandwidth with complete connectivity. With the HP MDS 9513 Fabric 2 Modules, the 8-Gbps
Advanced modules in the HP Cisco MDS 9513 Director provide 192-Gbps active backplane full
duplex bandwidth.
When used in the SN8000C 13-Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 3 Director Switch, or the SN8000C 13-
Slot Supervisor 2A Fabric 2 Director Switch and the HP Cisco MDS 9513 Director Switch
upgraded with HP SN8000C Fabric 3 Director Modules, up to 24 ports of the HP SN8000C 8Gb
32-Port Advanced Fibre Channel Module or the HP SN8000C 8Gb 48-Port Advanced Fibre
Channel Module can be configured to 10Gb/s for use as ISLs. These 10-Gbps interfaces enable
reduced cabling for ISLs as they provide 50 percent higher data rate than 8-Gbps interfaces.
The HP SN8000C 9-Slot Supervisor 2A Director Switch, HP SN8000C 6-Slot Supervisor 2A
Director Switch, HP Cisco MDS 9509 Director Switch with Supervisor-2 Modules, and HP Cisco
MDS 9506 Director Switch with Supervisor-2 Modules also support the Generation 4 8-Gbps
Advanced Fibre Channel switching modules. The switches require Supervisor-2A or Supervisor-2
modules and NX-OS Release 5.2(2) or a later release to support the Generation 4 8-Gbps
Advanced Fibre Channel switching modules. However, these directors support only up to 192-
Gbps Gbps active backplane full duplex bandwidth.
