Check Engine Oil
1. Checkoil beforeeachuse. Stopengineand wait severalminutes
beforecheckingoil level.With engineon levelground,the oil must
be to FULLmarkon dipstick.
2. Referto the Assemblysectionof this manualfor instructionson
checkingthe oil.
Change Engine Oil
Referto the viscositychart (Figure23) for oil recommenda-
tions.Do notoverfill.SAE30 is recommended for general,all
temperatureuse. Usea 4-stroke,or an equivalenthigh detergent,
premiumquality motoroil certifiedto meet or exceedU.S.
automobilemanufacturer's requirements for serviceclassification
SF,SG,SH, SJ or higher.Motoroils classifiedSF,SG,SH, SJ will
showthis designationon thecontainer.

To Drain Oil
2. With engine OFFbut still warm,disconnectsparkplug wireand
keep it awayfrom sparkplug.
3. Removeoil draincap locatedat the end of the oil drain pipe, and
drain oil intoan appropriatereceptacle. S ee Figure24.

4. Replaceand tightenthe oil drain cap.
5. Whenengineis drainedof all oil, placeenginelevel. Refillwith ap-
proximately20 oz. of fresh oil. Fillto FULLline on dipstick.Do not
overfill.Referto Checkand AddingOil in this manual'sAssembly
section.
6. Replacespark plugwire beforestarting.
Transmission Lubrication
The transmissionispro-lubricated and sealedat thefactory,it requires
no checkingunlessthe transmissionis disassembled. T ofill with
grease,lay the righthalfof thetransmissionon its side, add 22 ounces
of Benalene920 grease,and assemblethe left half to it. See an
authorizedSearsServiceCenterto havethe transmissionlubricated or
to scheduleservice,simplycontactSearsat 1-800-4-MY-HOME®.
Beforetippingengineor equipmentto drainoil, drain fuel fromtank by
runningengineuntilfuel tank is empty.
Used motoroil maycause skincancer if repeatedlyleft in contactwith
the skin for prolongedperiods.Althoughthis is unlikelyunlessyou
handleusedoil on a daily basis,it is still advisableto thoroughlywash
yourhandswith soapand wateras soonas possibleafter handling
usedoil.
1. Drainthe fuelfrom the tank by runningthe engineuntil thefuel
tank is empty.Be surefuel fill cap is secure.
