OiL FiLL CAP & DIPSTICK
Engineoil levelcan be checkedand oil addedthroughtheoil fill. See
Figure11.
NOTE:This unitwas shippedWITHOUToil inthe engine.Oil is
included in the plasticbag packedwith the manualin with the tiller.
Add theoil as directedin theGas & Oil Fill Up section.Checkthe oil
levelbeforeeachoperationto ensureadequateoil is inthe engine.

GEAR SELECTION
HANDLE
Thegear selectionhandle islocatedon the frontof thehandle
assembly.It is usedto select NEUTRAL,REVERSE, o r one of the
FORWARD modeson the shiftleverindicator. See Figure11.
DEPTH STAKE
This levercontrolsthe tillingdepthof the tines.Pull thecotter pin out
from theclevis pin to adjustthe tillingdepthto five differentsettings.

HANDLE
ADJUSTMENT
LOCK
Thehandle maybe adjustedto the heightdesiredby unlockingthe
HandleAdjustmentLock,then movingthe handlebars to thedesired
positionand then re-lockingthe HandleAdjustmentLock.See Figure
11.Referto theAssemblysectionof this manualfor moreinformation.
REAR TIME SHIELD
The reartine shieldprotectsthe operatorfrom flyingdebriswhilealso
smoothingout freshlytilledsoil. See Figure11.
SIDE SHIELD
Theside shieldis usedto maintainclearevenrows and maybe
adjustedto one of fivedifferentpositions.See Figure11.
TINES
Yourtiller'stines are a seriesof hoesarrangedon a revolvingpower-
drivenshaft.
TO START ENGINE
1.
Attachspark plug wireand rubberboot to sparkplug.
2.
Filltank to no morethan 1/2" belowbottomof fillerneck to
providespacefor fuelexpansion.
3.
Placethe gear selectionleverin NEUTRAL.
4.
Movethe choke leveron the engineto CHOKEN position.(A
warm enginemay notrequirechoking.)See Figure12.

6.
Standingon the sideof the unit, graspstarterhandleand pull
ropeout untilyou feela drag.
7.
Pullthe ropewith a rapid,continuous, f ull arm stroke.Keepa firm
grip on the starterhandle.Letthe rope rewindslowly.
8.
Repeat,if necessary,untilengine starts.Whenengine starts,
movechoke controlgraduallytowardthe RUN0'_0 p osition.
9.
If enginefalters,movechokecontrolbacktowardthe CHOKE N
positionand repeatsteps5 though8.
10. ALWAYS keepthe throttlecontrolin the FAST_
positionwhen
operatingthe tiller.
TO STOP ENGINE
1.
To stopthe wheelsand tines, releasetheClutchControl.
2.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto slow_
position.Whenever
possible,graduallyreduceenginespeedbeforestoppingengine.
3.
Movethrottlecontrol leverto STOPO position.
4.
Disconnectspark plugwireand groundit against t heengineto
preventaccidentalstartingwhilethe equipmentis unattended.
