Throttle Control Lever
Thethrottlecontrol lever is locatedon the rightside of
thetractor'sdash panel.This levercontrolsthe speed
of the engineand,on somemodels,when pushedall
theway forward,the chokecontrol also.Whenset ina
givenposition,the throttlewill maintaina uniformengine
speed.See Fig. 4-2.
IMPORTANT: W henoperatingthetractorwith the cutting
deck engaged,be certainthat the throttleleverisalways
inthe FAST(rabbit)position.
Choke Control
On some models,moving
thethrottle leverall the
wayforwardactivatesthe
engine'schoke control.On
all other models,the choke
controlcan be foundon the
left side of the dashpanel
and is activatedby pullingthe knob outward.Activating
thechoke controlclosesthe chokeplateon the carbure-
tor and aidsin startingtheengine.Referto Starting
The Engine in this section of the manualfor detailed
startinginstructions.
Brake Pedal
The brakepedal islocated
on the rightfront side of the
tractorabovethe drivepedal
alongthe runningboard.The
brakepedalcan be usedfor
suddenstopsor settingthe
parkingbrake.
NOTE:Thebrakepedal mustbe fully depressedto
activatethe safety interlock s witchwhenstartingthe
tractor.
Ignition Switch Module
WARNING: Never leave a running machine
unattended. Always disengage PTO,move
shift lever into neutral position, set park-
ing brake, stop engine and remove key to
prevent unintended starting.
Tostart theengine,insert t he key intothe ignition switch
and turnclockwiseto the STARTposition.Releasethe
key intothe NORMALMOWINGMODEpositiononce
theengine hasfired.
Tostop the engine,turn theignition key counterclockwise
to the OFF position.See Fig. 4-3.
IMPORTANT:Priorto operatingthetractor,referto both
Safety Interlock Switches and Starting The Engine
inthis sectionof the manualfordetailedinstructions
regardingthe IgnitionSwitchModuleand operatingthe
tractorin REVERSE CAUTIONMODE.

Drive Pedal
The drivepedal is locatedbelowthe
brakepedalon the rightfront side of
the tractoralongthe runningboard.
Depressthe drivepedal with your
rightfoot whenthetractorshift lever
is in either FORWARD or REVERSE
to cause thetractorto move.Ground
speedis also controlledwith the drive
pedal.The furtherdownthe pedal is
depressed,the fasterthe tractorwill
travel.Thepedal will returnto its origi-
nal positionwhen it's notdepressed.
