the DeckBelt
WARNING!
Shut the engine off and remove
ignition
key before removing
the cutting
blade(s) for
sharpening
or replacement.
Protect your hands by
using heavy gloves when grasping
blades and
pulleys.
WARNING!
The V-belts found
on your tractor
are
specially designed
to engage and disengage
safely.
A substitute
(non-OEM)
V-belt can be dangerous
by
not disengaging
completely.
For a proper working
machine,
use factory approved
belts.
All belts on your tractor are subject
to wear and should
be
replaced
if any signs of wear are present.
To change or replace
the deck belt on your tractor, proceed
as follows:
1.
Remove the belt-keeper
rod, from a round the tractor's
engine pulley,
by removing
the self-tapping
screw (A) that
secures it. See Fig. 7-2.
Note: Note what hole the other end of the belt-keeper
rod
is inserted
into for reinstallation
purposes.
3.
Remove the belt (C) from around the tractor's
engine
pulley and idler pulley(s).
See Fig. 7-2.
4.
Remove the cutting
deck as instructed
earlier in this
section.
5.
Remove the belt guards by removing
the self-tapping
screws that fasten them
to the deck. See Fig. 7-7.
6.
Carefully Ioosen,butdo
not remove,the
deckidler
pulleys.See
Fig. 7-7.
7.
Remove the deck belt from around all pulleys, including
the deck idler pulleys.
8.
Route the new belt as shown in Fig. 7-7 and retighten
the
deck idler pulleys.
9.
Reinstall the belt guards removed
earlier and remount
the
deck to the tractor.
10.
Route the belt around
the engine
pulley and reinstall the
belt keeper rod(s)
Changing the LowerDeckBelt
NOTE: Several components
must be removed
in order to change
the tractor's
lower deck belt. See an authorized
MTD Service
