CHUTE
DIRECTIONAL
CONTROL
Thechute directionalcontrolis locatedon the left sideof thesnow
thrower.
Tochangethe directionin whichsnowis thrown,crankclockwiseto
discharge to the leftand counterclockwise t o discharge to theright.
SKID SHOES
Positionthe skid shoes basedon surfaceconditions.Adjust upward
for hard-packed snow.Adjustdownwardwhenoperatingon gravelor
crushedrock surfaces.
WHEEL
STEERING
CONTROLS
The left and rightwheelsteeringcontrolsare locatedon the underside
of the handles.Squeezethe rightcontrolto turn right; squeezethe left
controlto turn left.
NOTE:Operatethe snowthrowerin open areasuntilyou are familiar
with thesecontrols.
HEADLIGHT
The headlightis located insideof the handlepanel.
DRIFT CUTTERS
Thedrift cuttersare designedfor use in deep snow.Theiruse is
optionalfor normalsnowconditions.Maneuverthe snowthrowerso
that the cutterspenetratea high standingsnow drift to assist snow
fallingintothe augersfor throwing.
CLEAN-OUT
TOOL
Thechute clean-outtool is conveniently fastenedto the rear of the
augerhousingwith a mountingclip. Shouldsnowand ice become
lodgedin thechute assemblyduringoperation,proceedas followsto
safelycleanthechute assemblyand chute opening:
Neveruseyourhandsto cleara cloggedchuteassembly.Shut
off engineand remainbehindhandlesuntil all movingparts have
stoppedbeforeunclogging.

Releaseboththe AugerControland theWheeldrivecontrol.
2.
Stopthe engineby removingthe key.
3.
Removethe clean-outtoolfrom the clip whichsecuresit to the
rear of the augerhousing.
4.
Usethe shovel-shaped e nd of theclean-outtoolto dislodgeand
scoopanysnowand icewhichhasformedin andnearthe chute
assembly.
5.
Refasten theclean-outtoolto themountingclipon the rearof the
augerhousing,reinsert t he keyand startthesnowthrower'sengine.
6.
Whilestandingin the operator'sposition(behindthesnow
thrower),engagethe auger controlfora few secondsto clear any
remainingsnowand ice from thechute assembly.
BEFORE
STARTING
ENGINE
Read,understand, a nd follow all instructions and warningson the
machineand in this manualbeforeoperating.
Oil
The unitwas shippedwith oil in the engine.Checkoil levelbeforeeach
operationto ensureadequateoil in the engine.Forfurther instructions,
referto the Service & Maintenance sectionof this manual.
NOTE: Be sureto checkthe engineon a levelsurfacewith theengine
stopped.
1.
Removethe oil filler cap/dipstickand wipe thedipstickclean.
2.
Insertthe cap/dipstickintothe oil fillerneck,and tightenthe cap
turningclockwiseuntilcap is seated.
.
NOTE: On some engines,a threadedscrewcapwill be present
insteadof the quarterturnlockingcap. In the instanceof a
threadedoil cap/dipstick,DO NOTscrewthecap/dipstickin to
check. Checkthe oil by restingthecap/dipstickon the threads,
but not screwingit in.
Removethe oil filler cap/dipstick.If thelevelis low,slowlyadd
oil (5W-30,witha minimumclassificationof SF/SG)untiloil level
registersbetweenhigh (H) and low (L).
NOTE: Donot overfill.Overfillingwith oil may resultin engine smoking,
hard startingor sparkplug fouling.
4.
Replaceand tightencap/dipstickfirmlybeforestartingengine
Gasoline
Useextremecarewhen handlinggasoline.Gasolineis extremely
flammableand thevaporsare explosive.Never fuelthe machine
indoorsor whilethe engine is hotor running.Extinguishcigarettes,
cigars,pipesand othersourcesof ignition.
Useautomotive gasoline(unleadedor lowleadedto minimizecombus-
tion chamberdeposits)with a minimumof 87 octane.Gasolinewith
up to 10%ethanolor 15%MTBE(MethylTertiaryButyl Ether)can be
used. Neverusean oil/gasolinemixtureor dirty gasoline.Avoidgetting
dirt, dust,or waterin the fuel tank.DO NOTuse E85 gasoline.
Refuelin a well-ventilated area with the enginestopped.Do not
smokeor allowflamesor sparksin the areawherethe engineis
refueledor wheregasolineis stored.
Donot overfillthe fueltank.After refueling,makesurethe tank
cap is closed properlyand securely.
Be carefulnotto spillfuel whenrefueling.Spilledfuel or fuel vapor
may ignite. If any fuelis spilled,makesurethe area is dry before
startingthe engine.
Avoidrepeated or prolonged contactwith skinor breathingof vapor

Cleanaroundfuel fill beforeremoving cap to fuel to preventdebris
from enteringfuel tank..

A fuel levelindicatoris locatedin the fueltank. Fill tank untilfuel
reachesthe fuel levelindictor.See Figure10inset.Be careful not
to overfill.
