chapter 1_Before You Begin
• The cartridge protects the surfaces of disc on which high-density recording
is possible. Once removed from cartridge, the disc can be replaced in the
cartridge and used with this DVD camera/recorder, but be sure to observe
the following:
• Before replacing the disc in cartridge, make sure that disc surfaces are
not scratched, and that no dirt or fingerprint adheres to them.
• Do not record, edit or delete on the disc when scratches, dirt or finger-
prints cannot be removed even if disc surface is cleaned.
• When replacing the disc in cartridge, insert it until a click is heard.
• Writing similar to recording is be performed even with simple editing or
deletion. Make sure that editing or deletion has been securely performed
with the disc removed from
cartridge.
Write-protect tabs
The DVD-RAM disc cartridge has
write-protect tabs to prevent overwrit-
ing on recorded data. Make sure that
the write-protect tab is set to the side
where recording is possible.
Cautions:
• Dust, scratches or dirt on the disc surface may
cause block noise because of the principle of
disc recording. This does not indicate a fault.
Be careful when handling the disc so that no
dirt or fingerprints adheres to the disc.
• This DVD camera/recorder has a function
that allows recording, avoiding portions of
the disc with dust, scratches or dirt [The DVD
camera/recorder sets to pause (
and automatically restarts recording (
)]. This will interrupt recording for several
seconds to several minutes, and multiple
thumbnails will be created (see p. 96) in one
recording as shown in the figure. In this case,
the recordable time will decrease.
