ParkingBrakePedal& Lever
Theparkingparkingbrakepedalislocated onthe left siderunning
boardofthe lawntractor.It isusedto bothsetthe parkingbrake
andto stopthe lawntractorin sudden situations.
Theparkingbrakeleverislocatedonthe left sideof the tractor's
dashpanel.Tosetthe parkingbrake, f ullydepress the parking
parkingbrake pedal.Movethe parkingbrakeleverall the way
downandintothe parkingbrakepositionandthen release the
parkingbrake pedalto allowthe parkingbraketo engage.
Torelease the parkingbrake,depress t he parkingbrakepedaland
the parkingbrakeleverwill automatically moveout of the parking
brakeposition.
Inan sudden situation,fullydepress t he parkingbrakepedalto
bringthe tractorto astop andthenimmediately movethe speed
control l everto the "N" neutralposition
IMPORTANT:
Donot usethe parkingparkingbrakepedalto
control t he groundspeed of the lawntractor.Doingsowill resultin
premature wearof drivebelt. Alwaysusethe Speed ControlLever
to control t he groundspeed of the lawntractorandto stop thetractorundernormal
circumstances.
Note:Theparkingparkingbrakepedalmustbedepressed to startthe engine.
Theparkingbrakemustalsobe setif the operator leaves the seatwith the engine
runningor the enginewill automatically shutoff. Referto SafetyInterlock Switches
laterinthissection.
Oil
IMPORTANT:
Your t ractor isshipped with motoroil inthe engine.However,
youMUST check the oil levelbeforeoperating. B ecarefulnotto overfill.
Forinstructionsonhowto check the engineoil,referto Checking TheEngine 0il in
the Service a ndMaintenance s ectionof thismanual.
Gasoline
Thegasoline tank islocatedunderthe hood.Donotoverfill.
Useextreme carewhen handling gasoline.Gasolineisextremelyflammable
andthe vaporsareexplosive.Neverfuel machineindoors or while the
engine ishot or running.Extinguish cigarettes,cigars,pipes,andother
sources of gnt on.
NOTE: P urchase g asoline in smallquantities. D onot usegasoline left overfromthe
previous season, to minimizegumdeposits inthe fuel system.
Thisengineiscertifiedto operate on unleaded gasoline. F orbestresults, f ill
the fueltank with onlyclean,fresh,unleaded gasoline with apumpsticker
octaneratingof 87or higher.
Gasohol (upto 10%ethyl alcohol, 9 0%unleaded gasoline byvolume)isan
approved fuel. Othergasoline/alcohol blends, s uch asE85, a renotapproved.
MethylTertiaryButylEther(MTBE) andunleaded gasoline blends(upto a
maximum of 15%MTBE byvolume)areapproved fuels.Othergasoline/ether
blendsarenotapproved.
Fillfueltank outdoors or inwell-ventilated area.
Donot overfill fueltank.Filltankto no morethan 1/2inchbelowbottomof
filler neckto allowspace for fuelexpansion.
Neverremove gascapor addfuel whilethe engineishot or running.Allow
engineto coolatleasttwo minutesbefore refueling.
Ifgasoline isspilled,wipeit off the engineandequipment. M ovemachine to
anotherarea.Wait5 minutesbefore startingtheengine.
Turnthe engineoff andlet enginecoolat least2 minutesbeforeremoving
the fuel cap.Thegasoline tankisunderthe hood,with the fuel fill cap
locatedonthe left handsideof thetank.

Fillthe fueltank with gasoline.

Reinstall thefuel cap.
Note: STOP f illing tankoncefuel isseeninsidethe filler neck. Thisensures t hata
proper e xpansion volumeiscreated, o therwisethe fuel canoverflowcreatinga
hazardous s ituation. DoNOT fill to the top of the filler neck.SeeFigure 8.

Remove o bjectsthat couldbethrown bythe blades.
Knowlocationandfunctionof all controls.
Besurebladesandenginearestopped beforeplacinghands or feet near
blades.
Beforeleavingoperator's position,stoptractor,disengage b lades, e ngage
parkingbrake, s hutengineoff, andremove key.
