Air Cleaner
NOTE: Operating enginewith looseor damaged aircleaner c omponents c ouldcause
premature wearandfailure.Replace all bentor damaged components.
NOTE: Paper e lement c annotbe blownout with compressed a ir.
Loosen knobs andremove air cleaner c over, s eeFigure 15.
Precleaner(ifequipped):
1.
Remove p recleaner.
2.
Replace o r washprecleaner i nwarmwaterwith detergent.Rinse andallow
to airdry.
3.
Saturate precleaner with newengineoil;squeeze o ut excess o il.
4.
Reinstall precleaner i ntocover, a ligningholein precleaner with uppercover
knob.
PaperElement:
1.
Remove e lementfrombase; r eplace element.
2.
Installelementwith pleatedsideout andseatrubbersealontoedges of
base.
3.
Reinstall air cleaner c overandsecure with knobs.
Remove a ndinspectthe sparkplug.Check gapto makesureit issetat .030".

Muffler

Temperature of muffler and nearbyengine areasmay exceed150 ° F(65°C).
Avoidcontact with theseareas.
Inspect m ufflerperiodically, andreplace if necessary. Replacement parts
for the mufflermustbethe sameandinstalled i nthe samepositionasthe
originalparts.
CleanEngine
Daily or beforeeveryuse, c leangrass, c haffor accumulated debris from
engine.Keep linkage, s pring,andcontrolsclean.
Keep areaaroundandbehindmufflerfreeofanycombustible debris.
Keeping enginecleanallowsairmovement a roundengine.
Engine partsshouldbe keptcleanto reduce the riskof overheating and
ignitionof accumulated d ebris.

Carburetor Adjustment

Lubrication
Beforelubricating, repairing,or inspecting,alwaysdisengagePTO (Blade
EngageLever),moveshift leverinto neutral position, set parkingbrake,stop
l eng ne andremovekeyto prevent un ntended start rig.
Pivot Points & Linkage
Lubricate all the pivotpointson thedrivesystem, p arkingbrake andlift linkageat
leastonceaseason with light oil.
Rear Wheels
Therearwheelsshouldberemoved from the axles onceaseason. L ubricate the
axles andthe rimswellwith an all-purpose grease beforere-installing them.
