TRAIL SHIELD
Jump Starting
Neveroperatethe mowerwithoutthe trailshieldin placeand working.
Failureto do socan result inpersonalinjury.
To replacethe trail shield,proceedas follows:
1.
Removethe screwwhich securesthetrail shieldto the right side
of the mower.See Figure28.

Bowthe trail shieldinwardon each sideto releaseit fromthe
mowerframe.
Installthe replacement t rail shieldby followingthe stepsabovein
theoppositeorder and mannerof removal.
BATTERY
Batteryposts,terminals,and relatedaccessoriescontain leadand
leadcompounds,chemicalsknownto the State of Californiato cause
cancerand reproductiveharm.Washhandsafter handling.
If removingthebattery,disconnectthe NEGATIVE (Black)wire
from it s terminalfirst, followedbythe POSITIVE (Red)wire. When
re-installing the battery,alwaysconnectthe POSITIVE (Red)wire its
_termna f rst,fo owedbythe NEGAT VE (B ack)w re.
Neverjumpstart a damagedor frozenbattery.Be certainthe vehicles
do nottouch,and ignitionsare off. Do notallowcableclampsto
touch.
1.
Connectpositive(+) cableto positivepost(+) of yourmower's
dischargedbattery.
2.
Connecttheotherend of thecableto the (positive+) post of the
jumperbattery.
3.
Connectthesecondcable (negative-) to the otherpost of the
jumperbattery.
4.
Makethefinal connectionon the engineblockof the mower,away
from the battery.Attachto an unpaintedpartto assurea good
connection.
If thejumper batteryis installedon a vehicle(i.e. car, truck),do NOT
start thevehicle'senginewhenjump startingyourmower.
5.
Start the mower(as instructedin the Operationsectionof this
manual).
6.
Removethejumpercables in reverseorderof connection.

If yourmowerhas not beenput intouse for an extendedperiodof time,
chargethe batteryas follows:

Set yourbatterychargerto delivera max of 10 amperes.
2.
If yourbatterychargeris automatic,chargethebatteryuntilthe
chargerindicatesthat chargingis complete.If thechargeris not
automatic,chargefor at least eighthours.
