DEPTHSTOPADJUSTMENTS
See Figure 45.
[] Unplug the saw.
[] To adjust the depth stop use a 10 mm wrench or
adjustable wrench and loosen the hex nut at the rear
of the miter saw arm.
[] Use a 5 mm hex key wrench to adjust the depth stop
adjustment screw. The saw blade is lowered by turning
the screw counterclockwise
and raised by turning the
screw clockwise.
[] Lower the blade into the miter table. Check blade
clearance and maximum cutting distance (distance
from fence where blade enters) to front of miter table
slot.
[] Readjust if necessary.
[] Tighten the hex nut with a !0 mm wrench or adjustable
wrench.
[] To prevent the depth stop adjustment screw from
turning while tightening the hex nut, carefully hold it
with the hex key wrench while tightening the hex nut.

WARNING:
When servicing, use only identical
replacement parts. Use of any other part may create
a hazard or cause product damage.

WARNmNG:
Always wear safety goggles or safety
glasses with side shields during power tool operation
or when blowing dust. Hf o peration is dusty, also wear
a dust mask.
GENERAL
Avoid using solvents when cleaning plastic parts. Most
plastics are susceptible to damage from various types of
commercial solvents and may be damaged by their use.
Use clean cloths to remove dirt, carbon dust, etc.

WARNING:
Do not at any time let brake fluids,
gasoline, petroleum-based
products, penetrating
oils, etc. come in contact with plastic parts. Chemi-
cals can damage, weaken, or destroy plastic which
may result in serious personal injury.
It has been found that electric tools are subject to ac-
celerated wear and possible premature failure when they
are used on fiberglass boats, sports cars, wallboard,
spackling compounds,
or plaster. The chips and grindings
from these materials are highly abrasive to electric tool
parts such as bearings, brushes, commutators,
etc. Con-
sequently, it is not recommended
that this tool be used
for extended work on any fiberglass material, wallboard,
spackling compounds,
or plaster. During any use on these
materials it is extremely important that the tool is cleaned
frequently by blowing with an air jet.
LUBRICATION
All of the bearings in this tool are lubricated with a suffi-
cient amount of high grade lubricant for the life of the unit
under normal operating conditions. Therefore, no further
lubrication is required.

WARNING:
To ensure safety and reliability, all
repairs -- with the exception of the externally acces-
sible brushes -- should be performed by a qualified
service technician at a Sears store to avoid risk of
personal injury.

BRUSH
REPLACEMENT
See Figure 46.
Your saw has externally accessible brush assemblies that
should be periodically checked for wear.
Proceed as follows
when replacement
is required:
[] Unplug the saw.

WARMNG:
Failure to unplug the saw could result in
accidental starting causing serious injury.
[] Remove brush cap with a screwdriver. Brush assembly
is spring loaded and wil! pop out when you remove
brush cap.
[] Remove brush assembly.
[] Check for wear. Replace both brushes when either has
less than 1/4 in. length of carbon remaining. Do not
replace one side without replacing the other.
[] Reassemble using new brush assemblies. Make sure
curvature of brush matches curvature of motor and
that brush moves freely in brush tube.
[] Make sure brush cap is oriented correctly (straight) and
replace.
[] Tighten brush cap securely. Do not overtighten.
