Troubleshooting
Possible cause
You installed an optional
network interface card
(Windows 95 only).
You're using ScanDisk.
Printing is too slow.
Possible cause
Your printer software
options are set incorrectly.
Your system doesn't have
enough resources.
You're using background
printing on a Macintosh.
You're not using ECP mode
and/or DMA transfers.
Your printer switches to the modem port or won't confirm on the printer
port (Macintosh).
Possible cause
Your Macintosh has
extension conflicts.
You're using an AppleTalk
cable.
Solution
If you've been using your printer connected directly to your
computer and then install an optional network interface card to
use it over a network, you must uninstall your printer software and
Status Monitor 2. See page 6-17 for instructions on uninstalling
your printer software. Then follow the instructions that came with
your interface card to install its network software. To reinstall all
your printer software, see your CD-ROM folder or Appendix B for
instructions.
Before using ScanDisk, turn off background monitoring in Status
Monitor 2. (See page 4-5 for instructions.) Then turn it back on
when you're finished using ScanDisk.
Solution
For the fastest printing, try the following (see Chapters 1 and 3):
Set Print Quality to Economy.
Turn MicroWeave off.
Turn High Speed on.
Choose Black ink and No Halftoning.
Clear space on your hard disk or run a defragmentation utility.
Don't run too many applications at the same time.
Turn off virtual memory.
Increase your system's memory (RAM) and/or processor speed.
Select EPSON Monitor3 and choose Get Info from the File menu
to increase the Memory Requirements for EPSON Monitor3. See
Chapter 4 for more information. If that doesn't work, turn off
background printing (you won't be able to use Monitor3).
If your computer supports ECP mode and/or DMA transfers, turn
them on to speed up printing. See your computer documentation
for details.
Solution
Make sure AppleTalk is inactive. In the Extensions Manager,
disable the AppleShare, FileShare, and PrinterShare extensions.
Set your printer and any unused Apple printers to the printer port.
Then restart your system.
Make sure you're using a standard Apple System Peripheral-8
cable. See the Introduction for more information.
