    Installation instructions. CAUTION: Certain plumbing skills are needed for installation. If you are unsure about any part of the installation of this product, consult a professional plumber. Unpacking and Inspection The softener is shipped in one master carton. The softener is completely assembled at the factory, except as required at installation.

    • Drain hose is needed for valve and salt tank drains. A 20 length of drain tubing is included. If a longer length is needed, it can be ordered from GE Parts at 800.626.2002. • If a rigid valve drain is needed to comply with plumbing codes, you can buy the parts needed (Fig. 4A) to connect a 1/2 copper tubing or plastic pipe drain.

    Breaking a Salt Bridge Sometimes, a hard crust or salt bridge forms in the salt storage area. It is usually caused by high humidity or the wrong kind of salt. When the salt bridges, an empty space forms between the water and salt. Then salt will not dissolve in the water to make brine. If the brine tank is full of salt, it is hard to tell if you have a salt bridge.

    About the water softener system. Cleaning the Nozzle and Venturi Assembly A clean nozzle and venturi is needed for the water softening system to work properly. This small unit makes the suction to move brine from the salt storage area to the resin tank during regeneration.

    About regenerating the system. It is not hard to fine-tune your softener, but it does take a few minutes of your time to do it right. Read the following carefully. To have soft water all the time, the softener must regenerate, or recharge a certain number of times in each seven day period.
