5. When the clutch c able i sinplace, secure the cable o nto t he handle
with the provided
cable t ies inthe locations
shown inFigure 8.

ADJUSTMENTS
Clutch Cable
Checkthe adjustmentof the clutchcableas follows:
1.
Positionthe tiller so thefront counterweight i s againsta solid
object,suchas a wall.
2.
Withthe gear selectionleverin NEUTRAL,startthe engine.Refer
to Startingthe Enginein the Operationsection.
3.
Standingon the right sideof the tiller,examinethe belt(insidethe
beltcover).It shouldnotbe turning.
4.
If the beltturns withoutthe clutchcontrolengaged,unthread
the uppernut and adjustit byunthreadinglowernut a fewturns
clockwise(whenstandingin the operator'sposition)and then
retightenthe upper nutagainstthe cablebracket.See Figure9.
5.
Nowmovethe shift leverto the FORWARD position.
6.
Carefullyengagethe clutchby squeezing clutchleveragainstthe
handle.The wheelsshouldspin.
7.
If the wheelsdo notspin with thetiller in forward,loosenthe
upper nutand adjust by tighteningthe cablea few turnscounter-
clockwise(whenstandingin theoperator'sposition)and then
retightenthe uppernut againstcable bracket.See Figure9.
8.
Recheckbothadjustments, a nd readjustas necessary.
NOTE:A secondarycableadjustmentis availableif you reachthe
point thatadditionaladjustmentis needed.Movethe nutsat theother
end of the cabletowardsthe end of the casing.Thenreadjustthe nuts
at the cable bracket.
Idler Pulley Rod
Checkthe adjustmentof the idler pulleyrodas follows:
1.
Disconnectand groundthe sparkplug wireagainstthe engine.
2.
With the engineoff and theclutch leverdisengaged,shiftthe shift
leverto eachforwardmode.
3.
Confirmthat the shift leverindicatorbracketdoes not touchthe
idler pulleyrod with the clutchleverdisengaged.
4.
To readjustthe idler pulleyrod, removethe beltcoveras de-
scribed underBelt Replacement i n the Serviceand Maintenance
section.
5.
Removethe cotterpin and springwasherfrom theidler pulleyrod.

Movetheidler pulleyrod out of the upper holeand into the lower
hole in the idler bracket.
7.
Replacethe springwasherand cotter pin.
8.
Checkthe clearanceof the idler pulleyrod to the indicatorbracket
by shiftingto eachforwardmode.
