by bendingthe side electrode,Figure19.The gap shouldbe set
to .02-.03inches (0.60-0.80ram).

Checkthat thespark plug washeris in good conditionand thread
the sparkplug in by handto preventcross-threading.

Afterthe sparkplug is seated,tightenwith a spark plugwrenchto
compressthe washer.
NOTE:Wheninstalling a newsparkplug,tighten1/2-turn afterthe spark
plugseatsto compress the washer.Whenreinstalling a usedsparkplug,
tighten1/8-to 1/4-turn afterthe sparkplugseatsto compress the washer.
Thespark plug mustbe tightenedsecurely. A loosespark plug can
becomevery hotand can damagethe engine.
Cleaning
the Engine
If the engine hasbeen running,allowit to cool for at least halfan hour
beforecleaning.Periodicallyremovedirt build-upfromengine.Before
servicingthe engine,removethecarburetorcover and/orblower
housing.Cleandirt and debrisfrom thefollowingareas:

Air IntakeScreenor RecoilStarter/Flywheel G uardAreas
SparkPlugConnection
Levers
LinkageArea
Guards
Carburetor
EngineHead
Removingdebriswillinsureadequatecooling,correctengine speed
and reducethe risk of fire.
Donotspraytheenginewithwatertocleanit becausethewatercould
contaminate the fuel.Usinga gardenhoseor pressure washingequip-
mentcan alsoforcewaterintothe muffleropening.Waterthat passes
throughthemufflercanentertheenginecylinder and causedamage.
Accumulation of debrisaroundthe mufflercouldcausea fire. Inspect
and clean beforeevery_ u se.
LUBRICATION
Lubricate the pivotpointson thecontrol handleand the extension
springat the end of the controlcablewith a light oil onceevery season
and beforethe snowthroweris put intostorageat the end of the
season.
ADJUSTMENTS
Shave
Plate
Tocheckthe adjustmentof the shaveplate,placethe machineon a
level surface.Thewheels,shaveplateand augerpaddlesshouldall
contactthe levelsurface.Notethat if the shaveplateis adjustedtoo
high, snowmay blowunderthe auger housing.If the shaveplatewears
out excessively, o r the snowthrowerdoesnot self-propel,the shave
plate maybe too low the groundand needsto be adjusted.
NOTE: On newsnow throwersor machineswith a newshaveplate
installed,the auger paddlesmay be slightlyoff the ground.
Toadjust the shaveplateproceedas follows:
1.
Runthe snowthroweruntilthe fueltank is empty.
2.
Pullthe startercorduntil resistanceis felt.Then tip the snow
throwerback untilit restson the handles.To ensurethat the snow
throwerdoesnot tip forward,it maybe necessaryto securethe
handleto the groundwith a block or other object.
3.
Loosen thefourflangelocknutsandcarriage screws whichsecure the
shaveplatetothehousing. S eeFigure 20.Movetheshave platetothe
appropriate p osition andretighten thenutsandscrews securely.
