front panel lights
The front panel of your HP Surestore Ultrium tape drive has four lights (LEDs) as
shown below.
Note:
LEDs during firmware download operation.
If a corrupt or incompatible image is download for firmware upgrade then the
Ready, Drive and Tape Error LEDs will flash until a tape load is started.
If a valid image is downloaded the ready LED will flash briefly, will be steady
for about half a minute and then will flash until the drive resets itself. In this
time DO NOT RESET OR POWER CYCLE THE DRIVE.
rear panel lights (external only)
The rear panel of your HP Surestore Ultrium external tape drive has two additional
lights (LEDs) as shown below.
http://www.hp.com/go/support/tape
Ready (top light, green)
This LED is the Power On/Activity LED.
On, steady: The drive is ready for use. It is powered
up but not doing anything.
On, flashing: The drive is busy. For example: it is
carrying out Write, Read, Self Test or
firmware download.
Off:
The drive power is off or there was a
failure during self-test.
Drive Error (second light, amber)
This LED is to indicate a Drive Error.
Off:
No fault has been detected.
On, flashing: The drive has suffered an
unrecoverable hardware failure. A
power cycle or a successful tape load
will turn off the LED, but if the hardware
fault is still present it will come on again
if the same operation is performed.
Tape Error (third light, amber)
This LED is to indicate a Tape Error.
Off:
No fault has been detected.
On, flashing: The tape currently in the drive is faulty.
This LED could come on for a number of
reasons, but they all relate to the tape
being in error in some way, such as
unreadable cartridge memory or
unsupported tape. Do not use the
cartridge; replace it. The LED will go out
when a tape load is started.
Use Cleaning Cartridge (bottom light, amber)
This LED indicates when a cleaning tape should be
used. See also "Cleaning".
On, steady: A cleaning cartridge is being used. the
Ready light will also flash.
On, flashing: The drive needs cleaning. The light will
continue to flash if the drive is power
cycled, and will only go out after a
supported cleaning tape has been used.
Off:
The drive does not require cleaning.
Act TERM (termination active)
On: the drive enclosure is providing active termination
on the SCSI bus
Off: the drive enclosure is not providing active
termination (there is another device or terminator
attached to the SCSI-OUT connector)
Fan/PWR Fault (fault with the fan or power supply)
Off: no fault has been detected
On: a fault with the fan or power supply has been
detected. Call for assistance.
