    6 Introduction Welcome! Your Philips DVD Recorder both records DVD+RWs and plays prerecorded DVDs. You can record TV programs, edit camcorder recordings, and quickly access your DVD+RW recordings in the Index Picture Screen. Plus, the DVD+RW recordings you make on the Recorder will play on some DVD Players and DVD-ROM drives.

    8 General Information Battery Installation Remove the battery compartment lid on the rear of the remote control by sliding the lid down, then off. Place two AA batteries inside the battery compartment with their + and – ends aligned as indicated. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, etc.).

    Quick Recording 19 DVD+RW The DVD Recorder can record TV programming onto a DVD+RW. Before you begin, make sure you have installed the TV channels. Details are TUNER ON/OFF on pages 16-17 and 36. Using an unprotected, recordable DVD+RW, fol- low the steps below to record TV channels.

    Use a commonly available cleaning CD/DVD to clean the lens of the DVD Recorder. • A DVD+RW recorded on a different brand of Recorder can play on the Philips DVD Recorder, but all its features may not be accessible. However, you may be able to adapt the disc format so you can access the Disc’s original features.

    64 Glossary AC-3: Audio Coding 3, also known as Dolby Digital; a multi-channel digital audio compression system from Dolby Labs. Analog: Sound that has not been turned into numbers. Analog sound varies, while digital sound has specific numerical values. Analog sound is available when you use the red and white audio jacks on your equipment. These jacks send audio through two channels, the left and right.
