Upgrading the Identity Manager

Nodes to Identity Manager 3.6.1
Beginning in June 2009, Novell
Manager 3.6.1 (32-bit and 64-bit) on Novell Open Enterprise Server (OES) 2 SP1 Linux. Updating
to Identity Manager 3.6.1 is needed only for 64-bit support, or to take advantage of bug fixes that
might be offered in 3.6.1. You can upgrade from Identity Manager 3.6 (which is 32-bit only) to
Identity Manager 3.6.1 on 32-bit or 64-bit platforms.
IMPORTANT: For information about installing or upgrading Identity Manager 3.6.1, see the
Novell Identity Manager 3.6.1 Installation Guide (http://www.novell.com/documentation/idm36/
idm_install/data/be1l4ik.html).
The following sections contain information about upgrading to Identity Manager 3.6.1 in an existing
BCC environment:
Section 6.1, "Upgrading to 32-Bit Identity Manager 3.6.1," on page 61
Section 6.2, "Upgrading to 64-Bit Identity Manager 3.6.1," on page 61

6.1 Upgrading to 32-Bit Identity Manager 3.6.1

On a 32-bit OES 2 SP1 Linux operating system, you can install the 32-bit version of Identity
Manager 3.6.1 to automatically upgrade Identity Manager to the latest version. You must stop the
BCC drivers, but it is not necessary to re-create them.
Repeat the following steps for the Identity Manager node in each peer cluster of the business
continuity cluster:
1 Before you upgrade to 32-bit Identity Manager 3.6.1, stop the BCC drivers.
2 Install 3.6.1 on a 32-bit OES 2 SP1 Linux operating system to upgrade Identity Manager from
3.6 to 3.6.1.
3 Restart the BCC drivers in Identity Manager.

6.2 Upgrading to 64-Bit Identity Manager 3.6.1

There is no in-place upgrade of the OES 2 SP1 operating system from 32-bit to 64-bit. The upgrade
from 32-bit Identity Manager 3.6 to 64-bit Identity Manager 3.6.1 requires a rebuild of the 64-bit
cluster node to install the 64-bit OES 2 SP1 Linux operating system and the Identity Manager and
iManager software components. You must re-create the BCC drivers.
Repeat the following steps for the Identity Manager node in each peer cluster of the business
continuity cluster:
1 Before you upgrade to Identity Manager 3.6.1, save the BCC driver configuration information,
then stop the BCC drivers.
