Navigation Terms

Avg Speed—the average of all second-by-second speed readings since the last
reset.
Bearing (BRG)—the compass direction from your current location to a
destination.
Course—the course between the active from and to waypoints.
Depth—the depth below the transducer. This field is active only if the
GPSMAP 3005C is connected to a Garmin Sounder Module or if NMEA depth is
available.
Distance (Dist)—the distance from the current location to a destination.
Dist to Destination—the distance from the current location to a Go To
destination or the final waypoint in a route.
Dist to Next—the distance from current location to a Go To destination or the
next waypoint in a route.
DOP (Dilution of Precision)—reflects the quality of the GPS signals and satellite
geometry.
Elevation—the altitude (height) above mean sea level (MSL).
ETA (Estimate Time of Arrival)—the time you estimate to reach your
destination waypoint, based on current speed and track.
ETA at Destination—the time you estimate to reach a Go To destination or the
final waypoint in a route.
ETA at Next—the estimated time to reach a Go To destination or the next
waypoint in a route.

Fuel—the fuel required to travel from your current location to the indicated route
waypoint.
GPS Accuracy—estimated accuracy of the GPS position.
leg Dist—the distance between two route waypoints.
leg Fuel—the fuel required to travel from a route waypoint to the next waypoint
in the route.
leg Time—the time required to travel from a route waypoint to the next
waypoint in the route.
Max Speed—the maximum second-by-second speed recorded since last reset.
Moving Average Speed—the average speed while the unit is moving.
Moving Trip Timer—the total time the unit has been moving.
Odometer—a running tally of the distance traveled, based on the distance
between second-by-second position readings.
Off Course—the distance you are off course in either direction, left or right.
Pointer—the arrow indicating the direction to travel to the next point on the
route.
Speed—the current velocity at which you are traveling, relative to ground.
Sunrise—the time at which the sun rises on this day.
Sunset—the time at which the sun sets on this day.
Time Of Day—the current time.
Time To—the estimated time required to reach a Go To destination or the next
waypoint in a route. Also known as "estimated time en route" (ETE).
