Removable Parts of the Galaxy A71

The Galaxy A71 has multiple removable parts. Being able to identify the parts and understand their functions will assist you in diagnostics and repair of the device. The parts include:

  • Battery Cover
  • Rear Case
  • Main PBA
  • Components
  • Sub PBA
  • Battery

Battery Cover
Battery Cover

  • Battery Cover tape
    • Outer tape bonds the device to the frame

The Rear Assembly
The Rear Assembly is made up 2 pieces and sits between the Battery Cover and the Front Assembly. It is broken down into the following:

  • Top: Sub antenna
  • Middle: NFC antenna
  • Bottom: Main antenna and speaker

Components
There are a few smaller components on the A70 that can be removed. These are:

  • Front Facing Camera
  • Rear Facing CameraS

The Main PBA
The Main PBA is the main board of the device. It contains the most essential components of the device such as:

  • Mobile Chipset (CPU, GPU, and Radio)
  • Main Camera
  • Proximity/Light Sensors
  • Built in Storage
  • Sub Microphone (Top Side)

The Sub PBA
The Sub PBA is the secondary board of the device. It contains the important components of the device such as:

  • 3.5 mm Head jack
  • Bottom Microphone

The Front Assembly
The Front Assembly of the A70 includes the following:

  • The Super AMOLED display panel
  • The Receiver
  • The Vibrator Motor

The Battery
The Battery is a Lithium-ion (Li-On) cell, and must be handled carefully. Improper removal can damage the cell, causing it to ignite and cause injury.
The Battery

  • Only hold the Battery from the center sides
  • Do not squeeze the Battery or use any unauthorized tools when handling it
  • Do not hold the Battery by its flex connector, as this can accidentally short the leads
  • When handling the Battery, be careful not to puncture or damage the battery

Disassembly of the Galaxy A71

Taking the device apart
In this section we will go over the disassembly of the Galaxy A71.
This guide will cover:

With this knowledge you will be able to completely disassemble the Galaxy A71.

Tools and Equipment

To ensure proper disassembly without damage to the device, use the proper tools and equipment:

Alcohol Pump Bottle 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and Swab AOD Jig

Removable Parts of the Galaxy A71
Steps of Disassembly
You will disassemble the device in the following order:

  • Battery Cover
  • Rear Case
    • Speaker
  • Main PBA
    • Main Camera
    • Front Facing Camera
  • Sub PBA
    • On-Screen Finger Print Sensor
    • FPCB
  • Front Assembly
    • Receiver
    • Vibrator Motor
    • Battery

Remove the SIM Tray
Before disassembling the device, the SIM tray must be removed.
Remove the SIM Tray

  • Insert the SIM removal tool into the SIM eject slot on the top left of the device and slide the SIM tray out

Before Disassembly
If the device has a swollen battery, do NOT heat the device.

  • A swollen battery will cause a device to bulge
  • Heating a device with a swollen battery can cause further damage to the device and cause the battery to ignite
  • In the event of a swollen battery, use 99% Isopropyl Alcohol to carefully separate and remove the Battery Cover

Disassembly of the Galaxy A71

Battery Cover Removal
Use the AOD to remove the Battery Cover. The Automatic method is preferred to reduce the risk of damage to the rear.

Automatic Battery Cover Removal – Heat the device
The heating process loosens the adhesives that hold the Battery Cover to the device.
Automatic Battery Cover Removal

  • Set the timer and temperature on AOD Upper:
    • If the battery is charged to 68% or higher, heat to 60°C for 5 minutes
    • If the battery is charged less than 68%, heat to 70°C for 5 minutes
    • Do NOT heat if the battery is over 80% charged
  • Set the AOD lower to 60°C for 5 minutes

Automatic Battery Cover Removal
Once heating has completed the Battery Cover can be removed.

  • Align the device into the jig and press and rotate the handle to lock the device
  • Close the lid and press Vacuum to create suction (The left suction and middle suction will be used)
  • Once the AOD vacuum reaches 80 or higher, press Battery Cover
  • The AOD will heat the device for the set amount of time and begin lifting

Remove the tapes and residue
After the Battery Cover has been removed, the battery cover tapes and residue must be removed.

  • Using your fingers, pull the tape from the Battery Cover and shape it into a ball
  • With the Battery Cover flat on the ESD mat or still on AOD, press the tape into the residue and pull up
    • This will lift the residue from the back
  • Continue until all residue is removed from the Battery Cover and Rear Assembly
    information NOTE Do not remove single sided tapes.

Remove the screws
Remove the screws from the Rear Assembly.
Remove the screws

  • There are a total of 16 screws that hold the Rear Assembly in place
  • Use the Torque Screwdriver to remove all screws

Disassemble the Rear Case
Disassemble the Rear Case

  • Insert a disassembly stick or plastic tweezers in the two disassembly points to remove the top and the bottom rear case pieces.

informationNOTE The Speaker is located on the inside of the bottom rear case

Precautions are required
The image to the right displays the internal components and circuitry of the Galaxy A71.
Before you begin to disassemble, ensure you and your work station are properly grounded.

Disconnecting the Flex Cables from the Main PBA
Using the Disassembly Stick:
Disconnecting the Flex Cables from the Main PBA

  • Disconnect the battery flex cable
  • Disconnect the 2 FCPB

Remove the Main PBA screw
Using the Torque Screwdriver:
Remove the Main PBA screw

  • Remove 1 screw (Black) located on the Main PBA

Removing the Front Facing Camera
To remove the Front Facing camera without damage, follow these steps:

  • Using the Disassembly Stick, disconnect the flex cable and remove the Front Facing Camera
  • Place the Front Facing Camera to the side w/ lens facing up

Remove the Main PBA
To remove the Main PBA without damage, follow these steps:

  • Using the Disassembly Stick, lift the Main PBA from off of the Front Assembly

Removing the Rear Facing Camera
To remove the Rear Facing Camera without damage, follow these steps:

  • Using the Disassembly Stick, to remove the Macro Cam that's connected to the front of the PBA and lay it lens facing up on ESD mat
  • Turn the PBA and use a Disassembly stick to remove the 3 flex cables to remove the Rear Camera module and lay it lens facing up on ESD mat.

informationNOTE When removing camera modules make sure not to touch camera lens

Remove the Fingerprint Sensor
To remove the Fingerprint Sensor without damage, follow these steps:
Remove the Fingerprint Sensor

  • Using a Torque Screwdriver remove the 2 screws
  • Disconnect the Flex Cable from the Sub PBA
  • Gently lift the Sensor away from the Front Assembly and place it face up on the ESD mat

Remove the Sub PBA
To remove the Sub PBA without damage, follow these steps:

  • Using the Torque driver remove 1 screw
  • Using the Disassembly Stick disconnect 2 flex cables

informationNOTE Once you disconnected the Orange flex cable you can set it aside on the ESD mat

Remove the Sub PBA
To remove the Sub PBA without damage, follow these steps:

  • Using a Disassembly Stick gently lift the Sub PBA from the Assembly and place on the ESD mat

Removing the Receiver and Vibrator Motor
To remove the Receiver and Vibrator without damage, follow these steps:

  • Using ESD plastic tip tweezers, lift the Receiver from the Front Assembly starting from the left side
  • Using ESD plastic tip tweezers lift the Vibrator motor from the Front Assembly

informationNOTE If you are doing an OCTA replacement the vibrator and receiver will come with the new OCTA

Remove the Battery
To remove the Battery without damage, follow these steps:
Remove the Battery

  • Apply alcohol along the side of the edges of the Battery
  • All the alcohol to soak for 30-60 seconds, this will help loosen the tape
  • Take care not to get any alcohol on the printed text on the Battery
  • Lift the Battery out using the Battery Absorber

Battery Handling
Handle the Battery with care by following these steps:

  • Only hold the Battery from the center sides
  • Do not squeeze the Battery or use any tools when handling it
  • Do not hold the Battery by the Flex Connector, as this can accidentally short the leads
  • When handling the Battery be careful not to puncture or damage the Battery

Battery Handling
If replacing the Battery, the following must be performed before properly discarding the Battery:

  • Using the Ceramic Scissors, cut the lead from the Battery
    • The lead gets sent back as U-Class

The device has now been disassembled
We have covered the disassembly process of the Galaxy A71. At this point, all removable components have been removed.

Keep in mind:

  • In a repair scenario, only remove as much as required for the repair
  • Follow proper process and tool usage to avoid damage

With the device disassembled, you can now move on to device assembly.

Assembly of the Galaxy A71

Putting it all back together
In this section we will go over the assembly of the Galaxy A71.
This guide will cover:
Putting it all back together

  • The tools and equipment needed
  • The steps of disassembly

So how does this help me?
With this knowledge you will be able to completely assemble the Galaxy A71

Tools and Equipment
To ensure proper assembly without damage to the device, use the proper tools and equipment:

Tweezers Disassembly Stick Torque Driver Anti-static Gloves
Anti-static Mat Press Jig Device press pad Battery press pads

Rework Kit
All tapes separated during disassembly must be replaced.
All screws removed during disassembly must be replaced.

You will assemble the device in the following order:

  • Front Assembly
    • Battery
    • Vibrator Motor
    • Receiver
  • Sub PBA
    • Fingerprint Sensor
  • Main PBA
    • Rear Camera
    • Front Facing Camera
  • Rear Case
  • Battery Cover

Install the Battery
The replacement Battery will come with tapes attached.
Install the Battery

  • Remove the protective vinyl from the Battery tape
  • Lay the Battery from the top left corner, while making sure the correct side of the Battery is facing up
  • Firmly press around all four sides of the Battery to ensure it is in place

Press the Battery
Place the battery between the press pads.
Press the Battery

  • One pad should be on bottom, with the front assembly against it, and the other pad against the back of the Battery

Press the Battery in the Press Jig to seal the tapes.

  • Press the Battery with 0.6N of force for 5 seconds
  • Make sure the proper press wheel is being used for Battery pressing

informationNOTE Do not press for more than 5 secs or w/ the 1N handle, as this can damage the display or battery

Install the Vibrator Motor and Receiver into the Bracket
To properly install the Vibrator Motor and Receiver without damage, follow these steps:

  • Ensure the contact pads are facing the appropriate and gently press both the Receiver and Vibrator Motor into place.

Installing the Sub PBA
To install the Sub PBA, perform the following:

  • Align the Sub PBA to the Front Assembly and gently press to secure a fit
  • Insert and connect Orange flex cable to Sub PBA
  • Connect the one remaining flex cable
  • Insert 1 new screw using torque driver

Installing the Fingerprint Sensor
To install the Fingerprint sensor, perform the following:

  • Align the Fingerprint sensor onto the front assembly and attach the flex cable to the Sub PBA
  • Insert 2 new screws using torque driver

Installing the Main Camera
To install the Main Camera to the Main PBA, perform the following:

  • Align the Camera module Flex Connectors with the Main PBA and gently press to secure a connection
  • Ensure that the Camera module is locked in position and aligned properly
  • Then attach the Macro Cam to the front side of the PBA

Installing the Main PBA and FFC
To install the Main PBA, perform the following:

  • Position the Main PBA to the Front Assembly. For a safe install, loosen up all connectors before installing the Main PBA
  • Connect the 2 flex cables to the main PBA to the Main PBA
  • Using torque driver insert 1 new black screw
  • Insert the Front Facing Camera and connect it to the Main PBA
  • Connect the battery flex cable

Installing the Rear Case
To install the rear case pieces:

  • Insert the bottom rear case over the Sub PBA and you should feel a light snap
  • Insert the top/middle piece that covers the Main PBA and Battery. While inserting this piece you should also feel a slight snap towards the top.
  • Insert 16 brand new screws
    • Use Torque Screw driver at 1.25kgf.cm2

  • Align the tapes by hand
  • Use the guide holes to assist with alignment
  • Once aligned, lay the tape down onto the Rear Case from top to bottom
  • Use the Disassembly Stick to press and secure the tapes into place
  • Remove the protective vinyl
  • Lay the Battery cover down on top of the rear case using the camera as a guide

Press the Battery Cover
Before the final press, perform a visual inspection.
Press the Battery Cover

  • Make sure the cover is properly aligned
  • There should be no gaps or overlaps between the battery cover and Rear Assembly

Press the device in the Press Jig.

  • Place the device in the appropriate Press Pads and insert into the press jig
  • If the repair only involved removing the Battery Cover, press for 1 minute with 1N of force

The Assembled Device
Once removed from the Press Jig, the device is fully assembled.

  • Make sure the SIM tray is reinstalled
  • Perform a final visual inspection of the device

Customer Pickup
Ensure the following before returning the device to the customer:

  • OS updated to the latest version
  • Run OQC with Galaxy Diagnostics that will include calibration tests: TSP, Speaker, and Optical Fingerprint
  • Device charged to 100%
  • Wipe the device clean with microfiber cloth
