Defining Device Macros

Codebuilder Dialog - View Menu

The Push, Release and Hold Button Event options are only available if each event
handler is selected (as Handlers In Use) in the Button Event Options dialog.

Defining Device Macros (Via Codebuilder)

1. Right-click on a third-party device (either in the System Diagram or the System Tree) and select
CodeBuilder from the context menu. The CodeBuilder command is also available in the Device
menu.
2. In the User Interface Buttons window, select a button. This is the button that you want to use to
trigger the macro.
3. Select Code > Handler Options (or click the toolbar button) to open the Button Event Options
dialog.
4. In the Button Event Options dialog, select the Event Handlers to use with this button event. Click
OK to save your changes and close the dialog.
At least one handler must be used with each event. By default, Push Handler is
selected.
5. In the Event window, there is a tab for each Event Handler selected in the Button Event Options
dialog (Push Event, Release Event and Hold Event). These tabs allow you to build macros specific

Push Button Event - Select to display Push Button Events in the Event window (default =
enabled).
Release Button Event - Select to display Release Button Events in the Event window (default
= disabled).
Hold Button Event - Select to display Hold Button Events in the Event window (default =
disabled).
Collapse Steps - Click to collapse all steps in the Event window.
Expand Steps - Click to expand all steps in the Event window.
Move Steps Up - Click to move the selected steps up in the list.
Move Steps Down - Click to move the selected steps down in the list.
Show Functions for Device Only - This option filters the device list in the Functions tab to
show only the currently selected device (not all devices in the system, which is the default
view). This is the same as using the Filter Functions toolbar button.
Show Status for Device Only - This option filters the device list in the Status tab to show only
the currently selected device (not all devices in the system, which is the default view). This is
the same as using the Filter Status toolbar button.
Show Friendly Names (Functions) - This option toggles the display of functions in the
Functions tab.
When this option is disabled (which is the default setting), the Functions tab displays all
functions for the selected device individually, with a descriptive name for each one. For
functions that support multiple parameters, each parameter is listed separately in the
Functions tab. This allows you to select a specific function/parameter directly into the
Event window.
