Wireless mode allows you to adjust the performance and accessibility of the
network. Adjustments are as follows:
• 802.11g Only: Will only allow 802.11g clients to connect to the WAP200G.
• Mixed Mode (11g + 11b) (default): Allows both 802.11g and 802.11b clients
to connect to the WAP200G. Allows the WAP to define when the 802.11b
devices are "clear to send" data packets. This option reduces the throughput
(802.11g devices are capable of transmitting/receiving 54 Mbps whereas
802.11b devices are only capable of a max of 11 Mbps).
• Mixed Mode Long Range (11g + 11b): Increase the coverage area by
decreasing the maximum throughput. It does this by limiting the data rates
being transmitted to 1 and 2 Mbps (5.5 - 54 Mbps data rate transmissions are
dropped).
• 802.11b Only: Will only allow clients to connect to the WAP in 802.11b mode.
802.11g is backwards compatible with the 802.11b protocol. As a result,
802.11g clients can connect to the WAP200G, but only in 802.11b mode and
at a max data rate of 11 Mbps.
An alpha-numeric string (1-32 characters) used to identify the WAP200G.
• This name is used as the SSID that appears both on the initial Configuration
Utility Status page and within the listing of available networks from the
Wireless Network Connection screen (Connecting to the WAP200G
(wirelessly) section on page 23.
This is a listing of the five available wireless regulatory domains available for
use with the WAP200G.
• Each of these domains is required to only use a specific set of
channels/frequencies.
• As each region is selected, the corresponding available channel listing is then
revised to display only those channels/frequencies that are allowed for use.
Refer to the Country Frequency Selection table below for a detailed listing of
the channels available per domain region.
Note: If you are using the WAP200G within a country located outside the
United States, you must first navigate to the Basic WIreless Configura-
tion page and change both the Country/Regulatory Domain and Channel
field entries.
A Channel is a specific frequency within the 2.4GHz spectrum range where
your wireless signals are transmitted.
• The default is channel 11, which is the only non-overlapping International
channel.
• To maximize performance for your specific wireless network, it might be
necessary for you to switch channels for better performance.
• Select the channel you want to use from the pull-down menu. Refer to the
Country Frequency Selection table below for more information.
Note: For better performance, avoid using channels occupied by other WAP's
in the area. There are up to 11 worldwide DSSS channels.
The Transmission Rates range from 1 to 54 Mbps.
• The rate of data transmission should be set depending on the speed of your
wireless network.
• You can select from a range of transmission speeds, or you can keep the
default setting of Best (automatic), to have the WAP200G automatically use
the fastest possible data rate and enable the auto-fallback feature.
• If your network is unusually "noisy" or "quiet", you might want to switch to
either a high or low communication rate.
• Press the Save button to incorporate the new information to the WAP200G.
• Press the Cancel button to terminate the process and return the fields to
their default values.
