2.9 – Memory Pair Installation
Both modules must be the same in both size and density. Modules must also use the same chip
configuration, meaning that each module that is installed must physically have the same number
of memory chips on them.
All memory sockets must be populated by the same memory type, either x4 modules or x8
modules. You cannot mix and match x4 and x8 modules together. The Thunder GC-HE will not
support any other type of memory configuration.
Install the memory-riser board by inserting it into the GREY memory-riser slot adjacent to
PCI slot 1. DO NOT force the riser-card into the PCI slots as doing so will void your
warranty and damage both the board and the riser-card.
A few things to remember:
Memory must be installed in order from bank 3 down to Bank 1.
Bank 1 is located at the bottom of the memory riser card. Bank 3 is located at the
top of the memory riser card.
A Side and B Side must be populated in pairs.
2 Way and 4 Way modes cannot be mixed.
Each bank must use the same memory density and configuration (i.e. x4, x8, etc).
Mixing memory types affects stability.
Different bank numbers can have different memory density and configuration, as
long as the individual banks maintain a consistent density and configuration.
When changing memory configuration, disable the Quick Boot option inside the
BIOS to allow the system to fully test the new memory configuration. This
includes new memory layout and or memory modules.
