CHAPTER 5
Debugging and Monitoring
Applications
The Macromedia Flash Media Server 2 management console lets you control applications,
users, and servers. This chapter covers how to view application usage, stream data, and shared
object data. For information about adding and removing server and vhost administrators,
viewing server performance statistics, and starting and shutting down servers, see Managing
Flash Media Server.
Using the management console to debug
and monitor application
The Flash Media Server management console allows you debug and monitor application
instances currently running on the server. For any instance that you select, you can view
detailed information about its status, including the following:
Log messages generated by the application instance on the server
A list of clients connected to the application instance
A list of active shared objects for the application instance
A list of active streams for the application instance
Information about the overall state of the selected application instance, such as total
uptime or number of users
For example, a designer debugging an application wants to view the content of a particular
stream. The administer logs in to the Flash Media Admin Server through the console, selects
the application and its Streams tab. The streaming content is displayed live in a console pane.
To open the management console, select Window > Other Panels > Management Console
from within Macromedia Flash. On a server computer that doesn't have Flash installed, open
the management console HTML file located in the //Flash Media Server 2/fms_help/html/
admin directory.
To use the management console, you must have full server administrator or vhost
administrator permissions.
