Garmin eTrex Touch 25 Manual

Set Up for eTrex Touch 25

  • Install batteries
    Set Up - Step 1
  • Turn on and configure unit
    Set Up - Step 2
    • Press and hold Power Key for about 3 sec – button on upper right side
    • Unit will take 20+ seconds to turn on.
  • Battery Type
    Battery Type
    • Press Power Key and then tap Setup
    • Tap System and then tap Battery Type
    • Tap Alkaline
    • Tap back arrow in lower left
  • Battery Save
    • Press Power Key and then tap Setup
    • Tap Display
    • Tap Backlight Timeout and select 2 minutes
    • Tap Battery Save and then OK
  • Position Format
    Set Up - Step 4
  • Units
    Set Up - Step 5
  • Compass calibration
    • On setup menu scroll to Heading and tap
    • Tap Calibrate Compass
    • Follow screen directions carefully
    • Tip: Move the unit slowly our you will get error message!!

Mark (set) Waypoint

Mark (set) Waypoint - Step 1

  • Press Power Key
  • Tap Mark Waypoint
  • Tap number field at top – eg 002
  • Use touch keyboard to enter name – can toggle to numbers
  • Tab the Check in lower right to Save name

Mark (set) Waypoint - Step 2

  • tap Lat-Lon field to edit
  • Edit Numbers for Latitude and Longitude using touch keypad
    • Note the scroll left-right arrows
    • Make sure Latitude is N (north)
    • Make sure Longitude is W (west)
  • Check your numbers!
  • When done tab the Check in lower right to save lat-lon
  • Tap Check in lower center to save waypoint!
  • Turn on unit with Power Key – wait for unit to start operating
  • Press Power Key and scroll to Satellite, tap and ensure unit has several satellites with good signal (Optional)

Navigate to Way Point - Step 1

  • Tap Power Key and tap Waypoint Manager
  • Scroll or spell search for way point and tap
  • Tap Bar Menu in lower right and select View Map
  • On map tap Go and wait for calculation to finish

Press Power Key and scroll to Compass, and tap

Note: compass is not accurate until you move

  • Follow the arrow on the compass until you are at 0 meters or see Stake
    • Need to move some distance for compass to work
    • Note: Do not expect prefect reproducibility in distance: you may need to hunt for the stake.

    • Note: As you approach the waypoint the unit will say 'Arriving at waypoint'. You are not at the way point. Tap OK to continue to the waypoint. The actual distance at which this message appears depends on your speed.

Navigate to Next Way Point

  • To go to the next waypoint.
  • On Compass, pull up menu from the bottom of screen
  • Tap the Menu Bars on lower right and tap Stop Navigating
  • Make sure the Compass Display shows no numbers
  • If you do not follow this procedure you may not be able to navigate to the next way

Pitfall with eTrex Touch 25

  • In Battery Save mode, screen goes dark
    • Press the Power Key
  • If Compass does not display distance to destination in metric
    • Tap the upper right number on the display
    • Tap Speed and dist.
  • Carry spare batteries!
  • Make sure you are using the correct coordinate system – hddd.ddddd and WGS84!

Trouble shooting

  • IF Screen shows RESTORE DEFAULTS, tap back arrow
    • Restore Defaults are factory settings. Change to our survey settings in SET UP
  • IF dist to dest. and compass arrow function do not work: Set up/Routing/ Activity= choose Direct Routing Does not matter if Lock on Road is on or off.
  • Maps: enable Worldwide DEM on, (others no- for Garmin demo purposes)
  • Ignore the following message if it comes up: "This route may take a long time to calculate. Consider Adding via points."
