ROTO-JET PUMP DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY RGA IV 3x2 RGB IV 3x2 GENERAL 1.1. INTRODUCTION This manual has been prepared to assist you in understanding the construction and the correct methods of disassembly and assembly for your new Roto-Jet pump. The Roto-Jet pump is the simplest and most reliable high pressure pumping device ever invented.
1.3. PUMP IDENTIFICATION Roto-Jet pumps are designated by a series of letters and numbers, such as RGB-S484. The first group, RGB, is an indication of the basic mechanical configuration and the second group, S484, designates the pick-up tube size. The pump nameplate gives both the pump model designation and the pump serial number.
2.3. DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY STANDS CAUTION When lifting the pump into the vertical position with or without the assembly stand a swivel hoist ring shall be used in place of the lifting eye bolt. RG 3x2...

2.7. CAUTIONS The following precautions are recommended to insure continued satisfactory operation of unit after reassembly. 2.7.1. Do not re-use o-rings on components during reassembly as they lose their seal integrity and may leak. 2.7.2. When removing or replacing the pick-up tube, always replace the pick-up tube capscrews to eliminate any over stressed bolts.
2.8.1.4. Seals may be changed with pump in horizontal (mounted) position or removed from mount and secured in position in which pump shaft is facing downward. The steps for replacing seal remain the same. However, extreme care must be taken to avoid face damage during handling of pump components in the horizontal position.
Single Seal (Stationary) - 3x2 Pump. Reference figure 2.6.1 2.8.2.7. Remove nut (55) from seal hub - left thread. 2.8.2.8. Remove mating ring (78) and o-ring (69). 2.8.2.9. Remove 3 set screws (80) and 4 socket head capscrews (71) from seal plate, then remove seal plate (70) and seal (75) from the endbell (26).

2.8.3.5. Install and seat seal (75) in manifold cavity. Caution to be taken to avoid chipping seal face. Install spacer (76). 2.8.3.6. Remove seal hub nut (55) from seal hub (29) (left hand threads). 2.8.3.7. Remove mating ring (78) and o-ring (69) from hub (29). 2.8.3.8.
2.8.4. Rotating Single Seal 3x2 Pump (standard seal configuration, reference figure 2.6.2) 2.8.4.1. Remove Seal (75) from hub (29). 2.8.4.1.1. If seal is to be reassembled in unit, note the seal setting before removing seal. On 3-1/2" (89 mm) seals equipped with balance sleeve - remove seal, sleeve and o-ring at this time.
2.8.6.5 & 2.8.6.6. (See below.) 2.8.5.5. Install 5 socket head capscrews (72) hand tighten. 2.8.5.6. Mount dial indicator on endbell (26) to measure radial runout of seal hub (29) (see figure 2.8 "A"). Max TIR - .002 inch (.051 NM). Slowly turn hub using pump shaft.
2.9. PICK-UP TUBE REPLACEMENT 2.9.1. Preparation. Remove manifold and seals per section 2.8.1 - 2.8.5. 2.9.2. Endbell Removal. 2.9.2.1. Remove the two of nine endbell socket head capscrews (63) which straddle the vertical centerline. Install the two endbell alignment tools (P/N 0600580573) in place of the two capscrews.
2.9.6. Endbell installation (Reference figure 2.4) 2.9.6.1. Install alignment tools (P/N 0600580573) in rotor case (3E) for endbell/rotor case alignment. Align endbell so that the 1/2" drain hole is at the bottom. Carefully slide the endbell (26) into place. Lubricate and install the nine endbell hex head capscrews (63) and torque to 104 ft.
2.10.3. Bearing removal. 2.10.3.1. Thread the 1/2" eyebolts into three evenly spaced holes at the periphery of the rotor. Place the rotor and driveshaft assembly on a flat surface. Remove eyebolts from the rotor and thread in three 1/2" jackscrews to prevent damage to the rotor o-ring lip.
2.10.3.8.1.3. Removal. Pull or tap bearing sleeve and/or pedestal bushings from pedestal bore using puller or brass rod. 2.10.4. Bearing Installation 2.10.4.1. Place the pedestal endplate (15) on the shaft (5) as shown in assembly drawing (Figure 2.5). Fill the reservoir to 25% of its capacity with approved grease.
2.10.4.12. Hand pack the bearing with grease to 50% full, working grease into the cage and around the roller balls. 2.10.4.13. Install spacer (28) on shaft. 2.10.4.14. Screw self-locking nut (46) on the shaft (5) and torque to 175 ft. lbs. (238 N- 2.10.4.15.
2.10.5.4. Install the endplate to pedestal with four capscrews (58). Torque to 54 ft. lbs. (73 N-M). NOTE: EACH FITTING MUST BE GREASED WITH ONE (1) OZ. OF FACTORY AUTHORIZED GREASE. 2.10.6. Shimming instructions WARNING: Before lifting the pump into the vertical position first remove the lifting eye and install the swivel hoist.
2.11.4. Rotor installation. Heat the driveshaft bore (5) in the rotor (3) to 140 - 160 degrees F (60- 71 degrees C). Check the temperature with a heat stick. Insert the driveshaft aligning the before-disassembly alignment marks and driveshaft flange holes with the holes in the rotor. Install the six socket head capscrews (7).
3.1.2.8. Heat the angular contact bearing (13A) to 150 - 175 degrees F (66-79 degrees C) and place it on the shaft against the bearing spacer with the wide face of the inner race facing away from the bearing spacer. 3.1.2.9.
5.3. Completely fill rotor cavity with liquid of required specific capacity. Seal off. 5.4. Position half key in shaft. 5.5. Two plane dynamic balance using surface A and B shown on figure 2.5. Trim balance to 1/2 of the out of balance by drilling as indicated on figure 2.5.
