ROTO-JET PUMP DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY RO III 4x3 GENERAL 1.1. INTRODUCTION This manual has been prepared to assist you in understanding the construction and the correct methods of disassembly and assembly for your new Roto-Jet pump. The Roto-Jet pump is the simplest and most reliable high pressure pumping device ever invented.
  • Page 6: Pump Identification

1.3. PUMP IDENTIFICATION Roto-Jet pumps are designated by a series of letters and numbers, such as ROA- S484. The first group, ROA, is an indication of the basic mechanical configuration and the second group, S484, designates the pick-up tube size. The pump nameplate gives both the pump model designation and the pump serial number.

2.7. CAUTIONS The following precautions are recommended to insure continued satisfactory operation of unit after reassemble. WARNING PLEASE STUDY THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY BEFORE PERFORMING PUMP MAINTENANCE. ADHERENCE TO THESE INSTRUCTIONS IS NECESSARY FOR SATISFACTORY REPAIR OF YOUR ROTO-JET PUMP. MAINTENANCE PERSONNEL MUST READ AND UNDERSTAND THE ASSEMBLY AND DISASSEMBLY SECTION.

2.7.8. WARNING: When lifting the pump into the vertical position with or without the use of the assembly stand a swivel hoist ring shall be used in place of the lifting eye. Reference APPENDIX A Drawing. WARNING THE EYE-BOLT HOLE LOCATED ON THE TOP OF THE PUMP HOUSING IS INTENDED FOR LIFTING THE PUMP ONLY, AND NOT THE COMPLETE PUMP AND BASE PACKAGE.
  • Page 20 2.8.1.4. Seals may be changed with pump in horizontal (mounted) position or removed from mount and secured in position in which pump shaft is facing downward. The steps for replacing seal remain the same. However, extreme care must be taken to avoid face damage during handling of pump components in the horizontal position.
  • Page 21 2.8.3.7. Slide seal plate (24) into endbell (26) with seal outward and drain hole to bottom of pump. Install 2 socket head capscrews (67) and tighten to 20 ft. lbs. (27 NM). 2.8.3.8. Slide mating ring with carrier (76) and o-ring (83) on seal hub (29) until it bottoms on the end of the seal hub.
  • Page 22 2.8.4.5. Mount dial indicator on endbell (26) to measure radial runout of seal hub (29) (see figure 2.8.4). Max TIR = .002 inch (.051 mm). Slowly turn seal hub using pump shaft. Adjust the seal hub by gently tapping the flange O.D. until the runout is to spec. Then tighten the 5 capscrews to 28 ft.

2.8.5.8. If pump has been turned vertical, (shaft pointed down) at any time the pedestal cover (18) should be removed and the oil rings (22) be placed on their respective slingers (19 and 20). Remount cover (18) on pedestal. 2.8.5.9. Re-install pump.

2.9.5. Rotor cover installation (Reference figure 2.5). 2.9.5.1. Lubricate and install o-ring (6) on the lip of the rotor (3). Place the pick tube (1) in the rotor. Lubricate the o-ring bore in the rotor cover (4) which engages the o-ring. Place the rotor cover on the rotor. Make sure all the holes in the rotor line up with the cover, as the hole pattern is not symmetrical.
  • Page 25 2.10.2.5. Remove pedestal cover (18) and position oiler ring (22) to clear bearings when rotor assembly is being removed, figure 2.4. 2.10.2.6. Thread the 1/2" eyebolts (P/N 060055411) into three evenly spaced holes at the periphery of the rotor cover (4). Remove the rotor, driveshaft (5) and bearings from the pedestal.
  • Page 26 2.10.4.3. Place the slinger on the shaft (5) against the shoulder as shown in assembly drawing (Figure 2.5). 2.10.4.4. Press the bearing (11) into the bearing sleeve (25). Be sure to place the bearing into the sleeve with the wide shoulder of the outer race (or the side with the bearing number written on it) against the shoulder of the bearing sleeve.
  • Page 27 2.10.4.13. Check to see if oil slinger (20) will rotate freely after bearings are installed. If oil slinger (20) rotates freely, place the shaft sleeve (28), bearing cap slinger (27) and the used bearing locknut (46) back onto the shaft. Tighten locknut using the bearing locknut torque wrench adaptor until the oil slinger (20) is secured.
  • Page 28 2.10.6. Shimming instructions 2.10.6.1. For proper bearing and seal location, dimension "B" (as shown in figure 2.10.6) must be controlled. Use the shimming bar (P/N 060580635) and a depth micrometer to measure the bearing and seal location. This measurement is then subtracted from the number stamped on the measuring bar.

2.10.6.2. Tilt the pump from its vertical position to a horizontal position. Remove the capscrews (60) and bearing cap (14), Install the required number of shims (38) as shown in assembly drawings (Figure 2.4). 2.10.6.3. Replace the bearing cap (14) and the three capscrews (60) and torque to 104 ft.
