CHAINSAW SELION C21 HD 51_149277-E 2.3.1. WORK AREA SAFETY Keep the work area clean and well lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in an explosive atmosphere, for example in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes Keep children and bystanders away while operating the power tool.

  • Page 10: Causes And Operator Prevention Of Kickback

CHAINSAW SELION C21 HD 51_149277-E Wear eye protection. Further protective equipment for hearing, head, hands, legs and feet is recommended. Adequate protective equipment will reduce personal injury from flying debris or accidental contact with the saw chain. Do not operate a chain saw on a ladder, from a rooftop, or any unstable support. Operation of a chain saw in this manner could result in serious personal injury.

CHAINSAW SELION C21 HD 51_149277-E 2.9. WORKING WITH TREE SERVICE HAND-HELD CHAINSAWS USING A ROPE AND HARNESS 2.9.1. OVERVIEW This annex sets out working practices aimed at reducing the risk of injury from tree service chain-saws when working at height from a rope and harness. While it may form the basis of guidance and training literature, it should not be regarded as a substitute for formal training.

CHAINSAW SELION C21 HD 51_149277-E 2.9.4. USE OF THE CHAINSAW IN THE TREE An analysis of accidents with these saws during tree service operations shows the primary cause as being inappropriate one-handed use of the saw. In the vast majority of accidents, operators fail to adopt a secure work position that allows them to hold both handles of the saw.
  • Page 15: Use Of The Chainsaw One-Handed

CHAINSAW SELION C21 HD 51_149277-E 2.9.6. USE OF THE CHAINSAW ONE-HANDED Operators should not use chainsaws for one-handed tree pruning when they are in an unstable working position, and should prefer hand saws when cutting small-diameter wood from the end of branches.
