Parts JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SPIRAL 10:
Parts JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SPIRAL EXTEND:
Description:
CO2 reactor that can be expanded as required with maximum diffusion rate of CO2 in water.
The modular design of the JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SPIRAL reactor allows the reactor to be adapted for optimum CO2 utilisation in practically any size of aquarium. The basic version with 10 modules provides the optimal CO2 amounts for aquariums up to 400 l. An extension JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SPIRAL EXTEND with five modules increases the range by 200 l. The unique design of the spiral channel up which the CO2 bubbles rise, with ventilation slits at the sides, allows the complete diffusion of the CO2 into the surrounding water without the need for an additional water pump to create turbulence. The transparency of the reactor allows the rising bubbles to be closely observed.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN GLASS MIDI (JBL PROFLORA CO2 BASIC SET only)
Description:
Elegant glass diffuser with ceramic membrane. The ceramic membrane ensures extra-fine CO2 bubbles, through which the CO2 diffuses perfectly into the water. The reactor is ideal for supplying CO2 to aquariums up to 300 l and cannot be extended.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN TUBE BLACK
Description:
3 m special hose, impermeable to CO2, for loss-free supply of CO2 to the aquarium.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN COUNT SAFE with integrated backflow stop
Description:
Bubble counter with integrated backflow stop for convenient control of the CO2 quantity.
The bubble counter JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN COUNT SAFE allows convenient control of the CO2 quantity. An integrated backflow stop provides additional protection against backflowing water. The installation of a separate backflow protection is not necessary. Hose screw connections at the inlet and outlet ensure safety. The enclosed screws can also be used for fastening to rougher furniture surfaces.
Note on the function of the integrated backflow protection: A built-in seal is „pre-tensioned" by a spring and thus prevents water from penetrating expensive solenoid valves, pressure regulators and CO2 pressurised gas cylinders. CO2 has a very strong diffusion force which, in the case of „normal" non-return valves without a spring, would draw the water out of the aquarium through the valve and into the CO2 pressurised gas cylinders.

Description: Fertiliser for aquatic plants
Description: Daily fertiliser for aquatic plants.
Description: Allen key for mounting or dismounting the thread adapter JBL PROFLORA CO2 ADAPT U - M.
The following figure shows a schematic installation overview. For the sake of clarity, we have limited ourselves to showing the CO2-carrying parts. Sensors and voltage supply lines are not shown. Only the connecting cable from the CO2 CONTROL to the solenoid valve is shown.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 BASIC SET:
Rinse the JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN GLASS MIDI CO2 diffuser (see "CO2 diffuser") with lukewarm tap water and connect it to the CO2 hose (see "CO2 hose").
Place the diffuser in a position where there is a gentle water movement as close as possible to the bottom of the aquarium.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 ADVANCED SET and JBL PROFLORA CO2 PROFESSIONAL SET:
First attach the JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SPIRAL EXTEND extensions according to the aquarium height to the JBL PROFLORA CO2 TAIFUN SPIRAL CO2 reactor (see "CO2 reactor").
Rinse the reactor with lukewarm tap water and place it vertically in the aquarium in a position with slight water movement. The top edge should be approx. 2 cm below the water level. Prevent plants or decorative objects as much as possible from blocking the slots of the individual modules.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 BASIC SET and JBL PROFLORA CO2 ADVANCED SET:
Install the CO2 permanent test (see "JBL PROAQUATEST CO2-pH Permanent") in the aquarium according to the instructions enclosed.
Choose a suitable place that you can observe comfortably and install the bubble counter there (see "Bubble counter with integrated backflow stop"). The bubble counter can either be attached with suction cups (e.g. on the outside of the aquarium) or to a wall or furniture surface with the enclosed screws. Cut the CO2 hose (see "CO2 hose") accordingly and attach the free ends to the hose screw connections of the bubble counter. Make sure to connect the supply hose to the connection with the long tube in the bubble counter. Unscrew the lid of the bubble counter. Fill it about 2/3 full with water and close it again. If the backflow stop (check valve) was dismantled during unscrewing, make sure to reassemble all parts correctly (see drawing on the separate packaging of the bubble counter).
Note: For installations without a bubble counter, it is necessary to install a separate backflow stop, which is not included in the set.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 PROFESSIONAL SET:
Select a dry and easily accessible location for installation when mounting the pH control (see "pH Control"). Connect the solenoid valve of the pressure regulator ("Regulator Professional") to the connection „valve" of the pH control (see "pH Control") using the valve connection cable enclosed. The sockets on the pH control and the plug connections of the valve cable are designed in such a way that an incorrect connection is not possible.
SYSTEM M:
Choose a place to mount the refillable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder that is out of the reach of children (e.g. aquarium cabinet). Mount the JBL PROFLORA CO2 CYLINDER WALLMOUNT on a wall or furniture surface using the two enclosed screws. The thickness of the furniture boards should not be less than 16mm. The refillable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder JBL PROFLORA CO2 CYLINDER 500 M ("CO2 pressurised gas cylinders" version 1) can now be hung on the wall mount using the safety bracket.
SYSTEM U:
The JBL PROFLORA CO2 CYLINDER 500 U disposable CO2 pressurised gas cylinders ("CO2 pressurised gas cylinders" version 2) are free-standing.
Choose a place for mounting the CO2 pressurised gas cylinder that is out of the reach of children (e.g. aquarium cabinet).
SYSTEM U:
Quickly screw the rear internal thread of the pressure regulator fitting ("Regulator Professional". version 2, "Regulator Basic". version 2) onto the external thread of the disposable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder. After a few turns a brief hissing noise will be heard. Continue to turn briskly until resistance is felt. Then turn about half a turn more until the pressure regulator is hand-tight.
SYSTEM M:
Screw the rear connection nut of the pressure regulator ("Regulator Professional" version 1, "Regulator Basic" version 1) onto the external thread of the cylinder valve on the refillable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder JBL PROFLORA CO2 CYLINDER 500 M ("CO2 pressurised gas cylinders" version 1). The connecting nut is a knurled nut intended for use WITHOUT tools! Only tighten it „hand-tight" without tools. Use of tools can lead to damage. Close the needle valve clockwise if not already closed. Never operate a vertical or inverted CO2 pressurised gas cylinder!! This can destroy the pressure regulator!
From JBL PROFLORA CO2 ADVANCED SET onwards:
The left pressure gauge now shows the cylinder pressure of about 60 bar and the right pressure gauge the working pressure of about 1.2 bar.
Now attach the CO2 hose to the hose screw connection of the pressure regulator ("Regulator Professional" part e, "Regulator Basic" part e.).
Slowly open the needle valve on the pressure regulator and set a bubble rate of about 10 – 15 bubbles on the bubble counter. After a run-in period of 24h, set the bubble count for your aquarium, as described in chapter "Setting the amount of CO2".
JBL PROFLORA CO2 ADVANCED SET:
First plug the power supply unit of the solenoid valve into a socket carrying continuous current and connect the 12 V cable of the power supply unit to the cable of the solenoid valve.
After the required number of bubbles have been set for your aquarium (chapter "Setting the amount of CO2"), connect the solenoid valve to the power supply which is controlled by the time switch for the aquarium lighting. This ensures the CO2 supply is interrupted at night when the plants do not require CO2.
JBL PROFLORA CO2 PROFESSIONALSET:
Put the pH control unit into operation and carry out the calibration required for the initial start-up in accordance with the operating instructions enclosed separately. Make sure that the solenoid valve of the pressure regulator is connected to the pH control unit via the valve connection cable. Set the control for the solenoid valve to „man open":
Settings key > select "Valve" > press OK > select "man open"> press OK.
Continue as described for JBL PROFLORA CO2 ADVANCED SET. After the run-in period of 24 hours, set the control for the solenoid valve to „auto":
Settings key > select "Valve" > press OK > select "auto" > press OK.
Then set the pH set point required for your aquarium and the required number of bubbles on the pH control unit as described in the operating instructions enclosed separately. The pH control unit now automatically regulates the pH value and the CO2 supply for your aquarium.
The three parameters, pH value, CO2 content and carbonate hardness, are inseparably linked, as they are interdependent.
When CO2 comes into contact with water, a certain amount of carbon dioxide is produced which reduces the pH value. The greater proportion remains dissolved in the water in the form of gas and serves as an important nutrient for plants. CO2, therefore, has two benefits: it reduces the level of pH in the aquarium, which is usually too high, to a level appropriate for fish and plants whilst at the same time providing plants with their main source of nutrients. This guarantees luxuriant plant growth and lively, healthy fish.
How much CO2 is needed to maintain a particular pH value depends on the KH in the aquarium. The higher the KH, the more CO2 is required. Once the KH and pH values are known, the CO2 content can be calculated. The following table saves you making the calculations and also shows the pH values which you can set without any risk to your fish.
The auto pH curve shows the values that are automatically maintained by the pH control unit in the JBL PROFLORA CO2 PROFESSIONAL SET fertiliser systems if the „auto pH" function has been activated. We recommend activating this function to always keep the pH value within the ideal range for your fish and plants.
CO2 content depending on pH value and KH
CO2 (mg/l)
JBL recommends a CO2 content of between 15 and 35 mg/l in aquarium water. This range is marked with "CO2 correct " in the table above. 20 – 25 mg/l have proved to be ideal. This level is not harmful to fish whilst at the same time promotes luxuriant plant growth. For aquascaping we recommend values up to 35 mg/l.
Please ensure that only those pH values are set which do not harm fish. This is the section of the table labelled "CO2 correct".
The amount of CO2 which must be added for the desired pH value depends on various factors such as water movement, consumption by plants, etc. and needs to be calculated individually for each particular aquarium.
In the CO2 pressurised gas cylinders, the CO2 gas is under high pressure. This pressure depends on the ambient temperature. At room temperature (approx. 20°C), the left pressure gauge of the pressure regulator shows a pressure of about 50 bar. This increases as the room temperature rises.
Thus at 30°C, the pressure gauge shows about 70 bar. The pressure in the CO2 pressurised gas cylinder is not a measure of how full the cylinder is. It will remain constant at the temperature-related value until shortly before the cylinder is empty. How much CO2 is in a CO2 pressurised gas cylinder can only be determined by weighing it. The empty weight (tare) is stamped on the cylinder. The current weight minus the tare gives the available amount of CO2.
The pressure in the CO2 pressurised gas cylinder is regulated down to an easy-to-handle so-called „working pressure" by the pressure regulator. The right-hand pressure gauge of the pressure regulator shows this working pressure. It is preset to approx. 2 bar in the JBL PROFLORA CO2 REGULATOR BASIC pressure regulators. When changing the working pressure, it is important that a decrease in CO2 takes place, i.e. the adjustment screw must not be closed, otherwise the new working pressure cannot regulate itself.
If the cylinder pressure on the left-hand pressure gauge falls below 30 bar, the refillable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder needs to be refilled within the next 2 - 3 days. The disposable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder may only be changed when it no longer contains CO2. This is when both pressure gauges show 0 bar or no more CO2 bubbles rise in the aquarium.
Disposable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder:
Make sure that the disposable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder is completely empty. There should be no CO2 bubbles rising in the reactor or diffuser. Disconnect the CO2 hose from the pressure regulator fitting and turn the pressure regulator counterclockwise off the Cylinder. Dispose of the empty cylinder according to your local regulations. Connect a new cylinder as described in chapter "Technical data".
Refillable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder:
Close the cylinder valve and disconnect the CO2 hose from the pressure regulator. Open the adjusting screw and release any pressure still present in the pressure regulator until both pressure gauges indicate 0 bar. Loosen the connecting nut of the pressure regulator from the cylinder valve. Hand over the reusable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder for refilling.
If there is no filled reusable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder available, you can also connect a disposable cylinder. Use the enclosed Allen key (size 6) to remove the cylinder connection nut from the pressure regulator. The thread that comes free will fit the disposable CO2 cylinder.
Connect the filled reusable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder or the disposable CO2 pressurised gas cylinder as described in chapter "Technical data".
