NVMe storage drives concurrent MES upgrade for IBM Storage Scale System
6000
An online IBM Storage Scale System 6000 MES upgrade is supported for customers who want to upgrade
a 24-NVMe-drives IBM Storage Scale System 6000 to a 48-NVMe-drives IBM Storage Scale System 6000.
To upgrade the system, the NVMe drives with the same capacity as the existing 24 drives must be used.
This MES upgrade doubles the available storage capacity in the existing IBM Storage Scale System 6000.
For this concurrent upgrade, it is suggested to complete this operation during a period of low workload
stress. Existing customer recovery group and file system data are preserved during the MES upgrade.
Supported upgrade path: 24 NVMe IBM Storage Scale System 6000 > 48 NVMe IBM Storage Scale
System 6000
Prerequisites
• All new or existing building blocks must be at the IBM Storage Scale System 6.2.1.0 or higher. If the
setup has any protocol nodes, these nodes must also be upgraded to IBM Storage Scale System 6.2.1.0
levels.
• The system must be working correctly before the IBM Storage Scale System 6000 storage MES upgrade.
• The existing IBM Storage Scale System 6000 must be a properly installed 24-NVMe system with 24
NVMe drives correctly located in all the even slots (2, 4, 6, ..., 20, 22, 24) in the upper half and all the
odd slots (25, 27, 29, ..., 43, 45, 47) in the bottom half.
