Carrera FIRST Series Manual

INTRODUCTION

This guide has been created as a supplement to the 'Assembly & Operating Instructions' as supplied with the above-referenced Carrera FIRST-series slot racing sets and should be used in conjunction with them.

Relates to the following FIRST-series items: 20063028, Mario Kart™ "Mario Vs Luigi" - FIRST Slot Racing Set (2.9m) - ASIN: B07PRBZ4LK

20063035, PAW Patrol "On the Double" - FIRST Slot Racing Set (2.9m) - ASIN: B07T26FBXX

20063039, Disney-Pixar Cars "Piston Cup" - FIRST Slot Racing Set (2.9m) - ASIN: B08Q3YBMWS

20063044, Peppa Pig "Soapbox Race" - FIRST Slot Racing Set (2.9m) - ASIN: B09RWXCFL3

20063045, Disney Junior "Mickey's Fun Race" - FIRST Slot Racing Set (2.4m) - ASIN: B0BTLX4LMB

TRACK BATTERIES

All Carrera FIRST slot racing sets require batteries to operate. These are not included and must be obtained separately.

Each FIRST set requires 4x C Size (LR14) Alkaline dry-cell batteries to operate and these are held in the track's Connecting Section (see example below).
TRACK BATTERIES

  • The battery compartment cover is secured with a Philips head screw and a suitable screwdriver will be required. This is a safety feature to prevent small children accessing the batteries and the cover should always be replaced/secured when there are batteries in the Connecting Section
  • Always replace all batteries at the same time - do not mix old and new dry-cell batteries together
  • Note correct battery orientation (+/-) as shown above
  • Rechargeable C-Size batteries can be used in place of dry-cell Alkaline versions.
However, a separate charger would need to be obtained in addition to the batteries
  • The better the quality of batteries used, the greater the performance will be, including overall run times. As a guide, using a quality set of dry-cell batteries will typically give up to 6 hours of play
  • Always remove batteries (dry-cell or rechargeable) from the Connecting Section if the set is not to be used for an extended period of time/stored away

CAR CONTACT BRUSHES

Contact brushes, as fitted to each car in pairs, transfer the electrical power generated by the batteries (in the Connecting Section) to the track, then via each car's contact brushes to power each car's drive motor.

As such, it is essential that the brushes are correctly positioned at all times (as detailed above) and clear of any debris, or the cars will not function properly/at all. It is also important to ensure that no fluff or other dirt/debris gets on the moving parts of the cars, as this will impede performance and can lead to premature transmission/motor wear.

Additionally, contact brushes are a consumable part that needs periodic replacement (replace per car in pairs, not individually). They are a push fit into the car and are easily changed.

CARS

FIRST-series slot racing sets are designed such that the cars are intended to stay on the track the majority of the time, even when the hand controller's plunger is fully depressed, and the cars are operating at full speed. However, as with real cars, those with a higher centre-of-gravity (taller) will be less stable around corners than those with a lower centre-of-gravity (shorter). Also, cars will run faster when batteries are fresher (have more charge/power). As such, it may be necessary to reduce speed momentarily around the bends to ensure the car stays on the race track. This hand controller adjustment is a key component of slot car racing and helps add to the fun of driving different cars around challenging courses.
