A new slant on sports riding, with a 52°
On a winning streak: the BMW Motorrad Telelever. The
new BMW R 1200 S is tted with an especially lightweight ver-
sion of the patented BMW Motorrad Telelever, which combines
the bene ts of swinging and telescopic fork designs, and also
features a central suspension strut. On the road, the Telelever's
responsiveness ensures a high degree of longitudinal rigid-
ity and excellent riding and steering stability even at very high
speeds. It also minimizes brake dive. The Telelever's geometry
has been specially recon gured for the R 1200 S to meet the
16 - 17
unique demands of sports riding, so that tilt angles of up to 52°
can now be achieved. Time to get out there and see what your
knee protectors are made of.
Don't settle for second best: the BMW Motorrad Para-
lever. The BMW Motorrad Paralever combines the functions
of rear-wheel suspension and drive train. The Paralever brace,
which serves to minimize load change reactions, is situated over
the swinging arm for better ground clearance. The rear wheel

differential is compact and light, while the concave rear axles
also features an innovative lightweight construction, and works
together with the weight-optimized swinging arm to reduce
unsprung mass. The chassis is faster to react to jolts, thanks
to the use of a WAD (travel-related damping) strut to handle
suspension and damping – the greater the compression, the
greater the damping effect.
The BMW R 1200 S utilizes a three-
section frame, with the engine as a load-
bearing component. The spaceframe
middle and front sections are screwed
onto the rear section, which features an
aluminium square pipe construction to
minimize weight.
That little bit extra at the vital moment: the sport suspension.
The optional, fully adjustable Öhlins Racing components turn
your R 1200 S into a genuine track bike, further improving
responsiveness and performance. The height of the rear
section of the chassis can be adjusted without affecting the
spring set-up. The sport suspension also features the same
travel-related damping technology as the standard version.
