1. GETTING STARTED
Powering up your ARI
• If electrical power is preferred, ensure that only
the Presidium Universal USB Adaptor is used.
• If batteries are used, slide open the battery
cover on the back of the tester, take note of
the positive (+) and negative (-) directions
when inserting the batteries into the tester.
Turning on your ARI
• Insert the probe tip into tester.
• Press and hold the power button to turn ON
the tester.
Calibration of your ARI
• To start calibration, depress tip against black
platform on the metal stone rest
• Follow the instructions on the screen to
complete set up of your tester.
Tutorial Function
• The tutorial function
is conveniently
located on the bottom right corner of the
"home" page.

Tips for using your handheld tester
• The probe tip must be placed at a right angle
or perpendicular to the facet of the gemstone
for an accurate reading.
• Tests should be conducted on the table of the
gemstone.
• Press Rotate Icon
to display the screen to
your preferred viewing angle.
• Press Power Button to return to previous page.
Cleaning the Optical Probe Tip
• Hold the probe pen with the pen tip forming a
right-angle (90-degree) with alcohol wipe.
• Gently move in a circular motion without
retracting the tip.
Cleaning your gemstone prior to testing
• The gemstone should be clean and dry before
testing.
Assessment of Optical Probe Tip
• Press Diagnostic icon
to assess the
condition of fibre tip.

2. PERFORMING A TEST
• To begin testing, press the "Test" icon
• Depress probe tip 90 degree perpendicular to
the table of the gemstone. Testing will begin,
you will need to hold the tester in this position
till the testing bar on the screen is completed.
• During the test, do not remove the tip from the
gemstone. The tester will detect a 'lift' from
gemstone and test will have to be reconducted.
For mounted jewelry or gemstones:
• Hold the jewelry or gemstone with one hand
and the tester with the other hand.
• Thumb and index finger must always be placed
on the grip.
For testing loose gemstones:
• Place the gemstone on the metal stone rest
and hold the metal stone rest with one hand
while holding the tester with the other hand.
• Wear protective gloves to shield your skin
from possible UV light exposure during testing
if holding of loose gemstone in your fingers or
the palm of your hands is necessary. It is
otherwise recommended to place the stone
on the stone rest during testing.
