What is the purpose of Standby mode?
You can initiate a Standby mode (full Suspend-to-RAM) by accessing Start,
Turn Off Computer, Stand By. This places the system in a deeper state of
"sleep" and requires that you press the power button to resume operation.
Putting your system into Standby initiates the Standby power-saving mode
and is a convenient way of conserving energy when you are going to be away
from your system for a short period of time.
What is the function of Hibernation mode?
Hibernation (Suspend-to-File) provides the greatest power savings by putting
the system into a maximum power shutdown. When the system goes into
Hibernation mode, it saves data and system status and then shuts off power to
all components. Hibernation mode lets you save power without first saving
your work. Resuming from Hibernation mode requires less time than
performing a cold boot.
Your system must be configured for Hibernation. In Windows Power
Management Properties, check the box labeled "enable hibernate support,"
under the Hibernate tab.
To go into Hibernation mode, go to Start, select Turn Off Computer. Press the
Shift key (Stand By changes to Hibernate.) Select Hibernate.
How do I bring my system out of Standby mode?
Pressing the power button brings the system out of Standby mode.
