Assembly

  1. Insert handle into body of machine until it clicks into place.
  2. Align clean water tank with the grooves on the back of the machine and slide it until it clicks into place.
  3. Wrap the cord around the Quick Release™ Cord Wrap and the lower cord wrap.

warning Note: To easily unwrap the cord, turn the Quick Release Cord Wrap down to remove the cord.

Changing the Brush Roll

FreshStart™
Multi-Surface Brush Roll Maintain freshness of the brush roll while removing tough, sticky messes and picking up dry debris.

Wood Floor Brush Roll
Gently clean sealed hard floors.

Area Rug Brush Roll
Pick up dry debris and pet hair.

FreshStart PET Multi-Surface Brush Roll
Maintain freshness of the brush roll while removing tough, sticky messes and picking up pet hair and dry debris.

  1. Grab the front of the brush window and pull upward to remove.
  2. Remove the brush roll by by pulling the tab.
  3. Reinstall by placing the end of the brush into the right side of the foot.
  4. Press the tab of the brush down so it locks into place.
  5. Replace the brush roll window by lining up tabs on the edges of the foot.
  6. Press the window back so it clicks into place.

Keep plenty of CrossWave® formulas on hand so you can clean whenever it fits your schedule.

warning Note: Only use CrossWave formulas in your machine. Other formulas or household cleaners may harm the machine. Do not use hard floor formula on area rugs or carpet.

  1. The clean water tank is located on the back of the machine. To remove, grasp the tank and pull up.
  2. Unscrew the cap from the bottom of the tank.
  3. Choose your formula*. Scan the QR code with your smartphone camera or visit BISSELL.com for formulas.

  4. The clean water tank has two measuring volumes depending on the amount of space you would like to clean.
    Filling the Clean Water Tank

For large area cleaning (up to 700 sq ft)

  1. Fill formula tank with warm tap water to the second water fill line (24 fl. oz.).
  2. Then add formula to the second formula fill line (4 fl. oz.).

For small area cleaning (<350 sq ft)

  1. Fill formula tank with warm tap water to the first water fill line (12 fl. oz.).
  2. Then add formula to the first formula fill line (2 fl. oz.).
  1. Screw the cap back on, align clean water tank with the grooves on the back of the machine and slide it until it clicks into place.

*Compatible BISSELL formulas include: Multi-Surface, Wood Floor, Area Rug, PET Multi-Surface with Febreze Freshness, Hard Floor Sanitize, Simply Multi-Surface, Simply Multi-Surface Pet, Pet Multi-Surface with Lemon Eucalyptus

warning ATTENTION This machine is designed to be used on sealed hard floors and area rugs.


To reduce the risk of fire and electric shock due to internal component damage, use only BISSELL cleaning formula intended for use with the hard floor device.

Cleaning Your Floors

  1. To turn the machine ON, press the hard floor or rug button.

    Hard Floor: Everyday messes on sealed hard floors, like tracked-in mud, spilled cereal and milk, coffee, and more.
    Rug: Refresh and clean dry messes, like crumbs, dirt, hair, and more.
  2. Recline to start the brush roll spinning. Brush roll will not spin when machine is upright.
  3. Before each use, hold the solution spray trigger for 10 seconds to prime the system with cleaning solution.
    LED lights will illuminate when holding the solution spray trigger. Bubbles will appear in the brush roll window when the solution is flowing.
  4. Hold the solution spray trigger to apply solution on forward and backward passes.
  5. Release the trigger and make a backward pass without dispensing solution. To dry floors faster, make additional dry passes.
  6. Press the rug or hard floor button to turn the machine OFF.

Cleaning with Hard Floor Sanitize Formula

Please read "Directions For Use" on Hard Floor Sanitize label. Use on hard nonporous floors only.

  1. Remove visible soil before cleaning. Hold trigger down to apply solution on to the floor.
  2. Allow formula to remain visibly wet on the floor for five minutes. This may require additional passes.
  3. With the trigger released, make forward and backward passes to extract solution.

warning ATTENTION
Do not overwet carpet or hardwood floors. Be careful not to run over loose objects or edges of area rugs. Stalling the brush may result in premature belt failure.

Emptying the Dirty Water Tank

  1. Press the button on top of the tank, grab the front handle and pull the tank out.
  2. Hold the top of the tank near the sides of the filter and pull up to remove.
  3. Pour dirty water down the sink and rinse the tank.

Using the Storage Tray & Clean Out Cycle

warning Note: The Clean Out Cycle can be run in the storage tray or on sealed hard floors.

  1. Align arrows on the storage tray with arrows on the brush roll drying tray and slide into place.
  2. Make sure there is enough solution in the clean water tank to run the self cleaning cycle. Empty the dirty water tank prior to starting the self-cleaning cycle.
  3. Optional: Add FreshStart™ Clean-Out Formula to the MAX fill line on tray.
  4. To begin the self-cleaning cycle, press and hold the Area Rug / Clean Out Cycle button for 3 seconds.
  5. The Clean Out Cycle will run for 40 seconds.

    warning Note: To stop or pause the cycle, press the Area Rug / Clean Out Cycle button. Press again within one minute to continue.
  6. Once the clean out cycle has completed, empty the dirty water tank and follow the after-cleaning care steps.

warning ATTENTION

After-Cleaning Care

The filter must be cleaned and dried after every use to maximize suction and performance. Replace the filter every 3 months.

  1. Remove and empty the dirty water tank.
  2. Hold the top of the tank near the sides of the filter and pull up to remove.
  3. Wash filter and screen with warm water and mild detergent.
  4. Rinse the float at the bottom of the top of the dirty water tank cover.
  5. Remove the brush roll. See instructions.
  6. Hand wash with mild detergent. Put the brush roll in the drying tray.
  7. Wipe out the brush roll chamber.
  8. Leave all parts out to dry before reassembling.

Store machine in a protected, dry area. Since this product uses water, it must not be stored where there is danger of freezing. Freezing will damage internal components and may void the warranty.

To reduce the risk of a leaking condition, do not store machine where freezing may occur. Damage to internal components may result.


To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock or injury, turn power OFF and disconnect plug from electrical outlet before performing maintenance or troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Remedies
Reduced or no spray Clean water tank may be empty or seated incorrectly. Refill and reinstall tank.
System isn't completely primed. Hold trigger for 10 to 15 seconds to make sure the solution has flowed to the spray tips.
Brush window is not latched in place. Unplug machine and reinstall brush window.
Not holding trigger to spray solution. Hold trigger continuously while using the machine.
Loss of suction or streaking Tanks may not be seated properly. Remove both tanks and reseat them so they fit properly on the machine.
Dirty water tank is full. Empty dirty water tank.
Brush window is not latched in place. Unplug machine and reinstall window.
Debris channel in foot is clogged by debris. Clean the channel with a paper towel.
Filter clogged by debris. Remove debris clogging the filter screen and clean the filter.
Too much water applied. Go over area without spraying water.
Brush roll isn't turning Brush roll is not installed properly. Follow instructions for replacing brush roll.
Machine is standing upright. Recline machine to turn brush roll on.
Brush roll stalled by debris. Unplug machine and remove brush window and brush roll to remove obstruction.
Machine won't turn ON Brush roll stalled by debris. Unplug machine and remove brush window and brush roll to remove obstruction.
Handle not inserted properly into body of machine. Reinsert handle and push down until it clicks in to place.
Machine is leaking Cap of clean water tank is not closed properly. Remove the clean water tank and reapply the cap.

  • Keep appliance on a level surface.
  • Do not carry the appliance while in use.
  • Do not use without filters in place.
  • Risk of injury. Brush may start unexpectedly. Unplug before cleaning or servicing.
  • To reduce the risk of injury from moving parts – unplug before servicing.

Improper connection of the equipment-grounding conductor can result in a risk of electrical shock. Check with a qualified electrician or service person if you aren't sure if the outlet is properly grounded. DO NOT MODIFY THE PLUG. If it will not fit the outlet, have a proper outlet installed by a qualified electrician. This appliance is designed for use on a nominal 120-volt circuit, and has a grounding attachment plug that looks like the plug in the illustration. Make certain that the appliance is connected to an outlet having the same configuration as the plug. No plug adapter should be used with this appliance.

GROUNDING INSTRUCTIONS

This appliance must be connected to a grounded wiring system. If it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a safe path of least resistance for electrical current, reducing the risk of electrical shock. The cord for this appliance has an equipment-grounding conductor and a grounding plug. It must only be plugged into an outlet that is properly installed and grounded in accordance with all local codes and ordinances.
