    Introduction Thank you for purchasing the Wavespeed/LAN Wireless Ethernet Adapter, an innovative, high-speed wireless net- working solution. The Adapter is easy to set up and use. With this innovative wireless technology, you can share files and printers on the network—without inconvenient wires! Now you can carry the LAN in your pocket! The Wavespeed is a network adapter with a rate of 1, 2, 5.5, and 11 Mbps operating in the ISM band using Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) transmission implementing the IEEE 802.11b standard.

    Installation Under Windows 98 Use the procedures described in this section to install and configure the Wavespeed under Windows 98. Throughout this section it is assumed that you have a basic working knowledge of Windows 98 and of how to install new network adapters on them.

  • Page 13 7. To have the Network Setup Wizard look for a Network Adapter, click Start Search. 8. Click Have Disk. 9. Type the directory path, c:\winnt\ws_temp (where c: is your hard drive) and click OK. 10. Ensure that Inside Out Networks Wavespeed Wireless Adapter is selected and click OK.

Insert the Windows NT 4.0 installation disk into the CD drive. Type d:\i386 (where d: indicates the CD drive you are using) and click Continue.

    Uninstall Procedures Under Windows NT 4.0 Run the Network Control Panel (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel). Double-click the Network icon. Click the Adapters tab. Select Wavespeed and click Remove. Follow the recommended on-screen instructions. NOTE: Do not reboot if you want also to remove the USB stack. You will want to skip the following instructions if you have Edgeports running on your system.

  • Page 19 The following screen will appear: You can set the following Wireless Network USB Wavespeed operational parameters: • Profile: The profile setting allows you to save configurations in different profiles for different working environments. The default profile will contain the initial configuration setting when you install the adapter.
  • Page 20 Select the "Site Survey" tab. The following screen will appear: Available access points and their features will be listed on the screen. Click on the desired access point. And click "Connect" to link to the access point. Click "OK" when you are finished.

The following screen will appear: You can set the following operational parameters: Fragmentation Threshold: The threshold defines the maxi- mum data frame size your adapter will transmit. Transmitted data frames that are larger than the threshold value will be fragmented into several frames.

    Using under Windows NT 4.0 Instead of a Configuration Utility, Wavespeed for Windows NT 4.0 uses the Wavespeed Adapter Properties window. This utility is installed when you install the Wavespeed Windows NT drivers. Follow the steps below to access this window.
