These mowers are designed for cutting grass and small weeds up to 0.4” (1cm) in diameter. The mower is equipped with protective deflectors to prevent objects being thrown from the mower by the blades, however, no shielding is 100% effective.

A qualified operator has read and understands the implement and tractor Operator’s Manuals and is experienced in implement and tractor operation and all associated safety practices. Page 100 OPERATION 2.TRACTOR REQUIREMENTS The tractor used to operate the mower must have the power capacity to lift, pull, and operate the Power Take Off (PTO) at the mower’s rated speed while traveling at a ground speed between 2 and 5 MPH. Operating the mower with a tractor that does not meet the following requirements may cause tractor or mower damage and be a potential danger to the operator and passersby.

Page 104 OPERATION 5. CONNECTING THE MOWER TO THE TRACTOR Use extreme caution when connecting the mower to the tractor. The mower should be securely resting at ground level or setting on blocks. Keep hands and feet from under the mower and clear of pinch points between the tractor and mower pins.
Page 105 OPERATION 5.2 Connecting Mower Hydraulics 1. With the tractor shut down and secured in position, move the hydraulic remote valve lever back and forth several times or place the hydraulic lever in the float position to relieve all hydraulic pressure. When connecting the mower hydraulic lines to the tractor, keep the hose, quick couplers, and swivels free of dirt and other contaminants.
Page 106 OPERATION 6. SETTING THE MOWER After the mower is attached to the tractor’s 3-point hitch, but before the universal slip joint is installed, and with the mower on the ground, adjust the top link of the hitch to make the mower gearbox input shaft parallel to the tractor PTO shaft.
Page 107 OPERATION 6.3 Adjusting the Leaf Spring Safety Mechanism The leaf spring safety mechanism must be adjusted in such a way that, during mowing activities the mechanism cannot get loose. Tightening should be performed by tightening or loosening the M16 nut, which determines the position of the clamping plate and also determines the tension of the leaf spring.
Page 108 OPERATION 7.DRIVELINE ATTACHMENT The driveline yoke and tractor PTO shaft must be dirt free and greased for attachment. To connect the mower driveline to the tractor PTO output shaft, pull the driveline yoke collar back and align the grooves and splines of the yoke with those of the PTO shaft.
Page 109 OPERATION 7.1 Driveline Length Check Before operating the Implement, check to make sure the Implement input driveline will not bottom out or become disengaged. Bottoming out occurs when the inner shaft penetrates the outer housing until the assembly becomes solid-it can shorten no more. Bottoming out can cause serious damage to the Tractor PTO by pushing the PTO into the Tractor and through the support bearings or downward onto the PTO shaft, breaking it off.
Page 110 OPERATION • Disconnect the driveline from the tractor and separate the two driveline halves. • Measure the distance from the mark to the end of the inner profile. This length is the amount the driveline profiles were engaged. • If the engaged length is less than 12” the shaft is considered too short and should be replaced with a longer shaft. Consult an authorized dealer to purchase the required driveline length.

Ensure the tractor has the capacity to handle the weight of the implement and the tractor operating controls are set for safe transport.

Page 122 OPERATION 10.DRIVING THE TRACTOR AND MOWER Start off driving at a slow speed and gradually increase your speed while maintaining control of the tractor and mower. Moving slowly at first will also prevent the tractor from rearing up and loss of steering control.
Page 123 OPERATION 10.1 Crossing Ditches and Steep Inclines When crossing ditches with steep banks or going up sharp inclines, it is possible that the main driveline inner profile will penetrate into the outer housing to its maximum depth until the assembly becomes solid (driveline is at its extreme shortest length).
Page 124 OPERATION Inclines and ditches should be approached along a line which is at an angle as shown. This type of path will reduce the possibility of over-collapse of the driveline and resulting damage. If the gradient is so steep that such an approach increases the possibility of a tractor roll-over, select an alternate crossing path.

Page 127 OPERATION 11.4 PTO RPM and Ground Speed Ground speed for mowing will depend upon the height, type, and density of vegetation to be cut. Recommended speed for efficient mower performance is between 2 and 5 mph(3-8 kph). Operate the mower at its full rated PTO speed to maintain blade speed for a clean cut.
Page 128 OPERATION Do not mow with two machines in the same area except with Cab tractors with the windows closed. (SGM-11)str Mow only in conditions where you have clear visibility in daylight or with adequate artificial lighting. Never mow in darkness or foggy conditions where you cannot clearly see at least 300 feet (90 m) in front and to the sides of the tractor and mower.
Page 129 OPERATION 11.6 Shutting Down the Implement To shut down the implement, first bring the tractor to a complete stop. Then slow down the implement by reducing the engine speed before disengaging the PTO. Push the stop button to disengage the wings and wait for all motion to stop before proceeding to drive or shut down the tractor.
Page 130 OPERATION After disconnecting the 3 lift points, remove the mower driveline from the tractor PTO shaft. Lay the driveline down carefully to avoid damaging the driveline or its shield. Do not let the driveline fall into mud or dirt, which can contaminate the bearing and shorten the life of the driveline.
Page 131 OPERATION It is critical that driveline clutches slip when an obstacle or heavy load is encountered to avoid mower and/or tractor damage. If the mower sits outside for an extended period of time or is exposed to rain and/or humid air, the clutch lining plates must be inspected to ensure they are not frozen together from rust or corrosion.
Page 132 OPERATION Before transporting the tractor on a public roadway or boarding a trailer for transport, the tractor brake pedals should be locked together. Locking the pedals ensures that both wheels brake simultaneously while stopping, especially when making an emergency stop. Use extreme caution and avoid hard applications of the tractor brakes when towing heavy loads at road speeds.
Page 133 OPERATION The SMV (Slow-Moving Vehicle) and the “Speed Identification Sign (SIS)” emblems are universal symbols used to alert drivers of the presence of equipment traveling on roadways at a slow speed. SMV signs are a triangular bright orange with reflective red trim for both easy day and night visibility.

Page 141 MAINTENANCE GEARBOX The oil content required for the gearbox is 2 quarts (64 ounces) of Gear Oil SAE 90 API GL4. The gearbox oil is to be changed for the first time after 20 running hours and subsequently once every a season. In addition, it is necessary to check the gearbox regularly for any leaks.
Page 142 MAINTENANCE DRIVELINE The Driveline should be inspected each morning before the mower is started. Cross & bearings are located at each end of driveline. Telescoping tube sitting is accessible by rotating driveline shield tubes until hole in shield exposes grease fitting.
Page 143 MAINTENANCE DRIVELINE SHIELD The Driveline Integral Shields should not become dented or otherwise damaged. The Integral Shield Assembly has a Nylon Bearing at each end and should turn freely. This nylon bearing should require lubrication every 8 hours. To remove the Integral Shields for replacement or repair, turn the three Nylon Nuts 1/4 turn in the Shield Slots of the Cone and Tube and remove them.

Page 151 MAINTENANCE GENERAL INFORMATION ON FLAIL MOWER VIBRATION FLAIL MOWERS INFORMATION BULLETIN NO. 5 EXCESSIVE VIBRATION Vibration is a MONSTER and if allowed to continue unchecked, can cause the complete break-up of a machine in a very short time. A properly operated Flail Mower will produce very little vibration. If vibration does occur, the mower should be stopped and the trouble corrected, as warranty does not cover failures resulting from continued operation after something happens to cause the mower to vibrate excessively.
