Levels of noise and vibration were determined according to the standards and regulations in the declaration of conformity. The specified total vibration value and the stated noise emission value have been measured according to a standardised test method and can be used to compare one power tool with another. The specified total vibration value and the stated specified noise emission value can also be used for a provisional assessment of the load.

The vibration and noise emissions may deviate from the specified values during actual use of the power tool, depending on how the power tool is being used. Try to keep the exposure to vibrations as low as possible. An example of a measure to reduce vibration exposure is limiting the working hours. All parts of the operating cycle have to be considered while doing so (for example, times when the power tool is switched off and times when it is switched on but running without any load).

Charging time
The device is part of the X 20 V TEAM series and can be operated with batteries of the X 20 V TEAM series. Batteries of the X 20 V TEAM series may only be charged using chargers of the X 20 V TEAM series.
We recommend that you operate this appliance with the following batteries only: PAP 20 B1, PAP 20 B3, Smart PAPS 204 A1, Smart PAPS 208 A1

Risk of injury due to unintentional start-up. Do not insert the rechargeable battery into the device until the device is fully prepared for use.

Attaching the telescopic tube

  1. Push the telescopic guide bar (11) and the telescopic tube (13) together as far as they will go. Only one position is possible.
  2. Fix both parts using the screw sleeve (12).

Attaching the protective cover (Fig. A)
Tools required

  • Phillips screwdriver (28)

Procedure

  1. Place the protective cover (17) on the motor head (16).

Attaching the auxiliary handle

  1. Loosen and remove the pre-assembled grip screw (5) of the auxiliary handle (23).
  2. Slide the auxiliary handle (23) over the holder (10). The holder for the spare spool (22) points upwards.
  3. Insert the grip screw (5) through the through-hole of the holder (10) for the auxiliary handle.
  4. Screw the auxiliary handle (23) tightly using the grip screw (5).

Adjusting the auxiliary handle
You can move the auxiliary handle (23) to different positions. Adjust the auxiliary handle so that the spool cap (20) is tilted slightly forward as you work (see Cutting grass).

Procedure (Fig. C.1)

  1. Loosen the grip screw (5).
  2. Adjust the auxiliary handle (23) to the desired position. The latching steps integrated into the holder prevent the handle changing position unintentionally.
  3. Tighten the grip screw (5) again.

  • Position of motor head 0°

Function as a lawn edge trimmer

  • Cutting angle position 5
  • Position of motor head 180°

Adjusting the spacer
The spacer (flower protection) (21) keeps plants and stems that are not to be cut away from the cutting unit.

Procedure (Fig. C.5)

  1. Fold the spacer (21) down.
  2. Fold the spacer (21) up (resting position) when it is not needed.

Extending the cutting line
The device is equipped with a fully automatic line tracker . The line extends automatically every time the device is switched on. For proper functioning of the automatic line extension mechanism, the spool (18) must have stopped completely before you restart the device. If the lines are initially longer than the cutting circle, they are automatically shortened to the right length by the line cutter (32).

  1. Check the nylon lines regularly for damage and make sure the cutting line still has the length specified by the line cutter.
  2. If no line ends are visible: Replace the spool (seeReplacing the spool).
  3. Adjust the line length manually:
Remove the battery (6) from the device!
Pull gently on the line end until the line ends protrude slightly beyond the line cutter (32).

Working with the trimmer cart
The lawn trimmer can be used like a city lawn mower with 2-stage axial cutting height adjustment by engaging it in the trimmer cart (25).

Mounting the lawn trimmer on the trimmer cart (Fig. E)
Mounting the lawn trimmer on the trimmer cart

  1. Place the motor head (16) in the guide (27) on the trimmer cart.
  2. Push the lawn trimmer backwards at an angle. The protective cover (17) engages at the trimmer cart lock (26).

Dismounting the lawn trimmer from the trimmer cart

  • After each use, remove all grass anddirt from the protective cover and the cutting unit.

Maintenance
Replacing the spool
The correct winding direction of the spool (18) is specified in the spool cap (20) and on the spool. The arrows on the spool cover (31) indicate the direction of rotation of the motor.

Procedure (Fig. B)

  1. Remove the battery (6) from the device.
  2. the spool cap (20) by simultaneously pressing the two releases (30) on the spool cap.
  3. Remove the spool cover (31) and take out the old spool.
  4. Insert the new spool into the spool cap (20). The side of the spool (18), on which the rotation direction is indicated by arrows, must be visible after insertion.
  5. Insert the end of the line through the line outlet loop (19).
  6. Put the spool cover (31) back on the spool cap. Make sure that the releases (30) on the cover fit precisely into the recesses on the spool cap. You will hear them snap into place.
  7. Pull the line ends until they stick out about 1 cm above the line cutter (32).
  8. Check the line cutter.

Never use the device without a line cutter or with a defective line cutter. Contact the service centre if the line cutter is damaged.

Winding up spare line

  1. Thread an end of the spare line through the opening of the spool (18).
  2. Wind the line in the winding direction of the spool. Pay attention to the arrows on the top of the spool.

Storage
Always store the device:

  • clean
  • dry
  • protected against dust
  • out of the reach of children

The storage temperature for the rechargeable battery and the device is between 0°C and 45°C. Avoid extreme cold or heat during storage to ensure the battery output is not adversely affected. Remove the rechargeable battery from the device before storing the device (see the separate operating instructions for the battery and charger).
Do not lie the device down on the protective cover. It is best to hang it on the upper handle so that the protective cover does not touch any other objects. There is a risk that the protective cover will become deformed, thus changing the dimensions and safety characteristics.
