    Tellabs® ONT142R Installation and Turnup Guide The ONT142R is part of the Tellabs 100 series of ONTs for passive optical networks (PON). It is a compact desktop unit that can sit on a desk, a table, or a shelf, or can be attached to a wall, the underside of a desk or shelf, or most any other object using a wall mounting bracket (optional).

    The installation must seek to balance user preference with the environmental, power, and cabling requirements of the ONT and any subtending equipment.     The Tellabs ONT142R can also be mounted to a wall, the back or underside of a desk or shelf, in any orientation, using screws. This can keep the unit and cables out of sight and out of the way.

    ONT142R — desktop Optical Network Terminal unit (no power supply) · If multiple ONT142Rs or ordered, or optional accessories are ordered along with the ONT142R, they may be packed in the same shipping container, or be shipped separately. Outside the Box A reusable-adhesive label that has the ONT serial number (with barcode representation) printed on it is affixed to the outside of the box.

    The AC adapter and its AC line cord are all optional accessories. Likewise, because the ONT142R can sit on a desk or shelf or be mounted on a wall or under a desk, a Wall Mounting Bracket is also an optional accessory.

    The ONT142R can simply be placed on top of a desk, a table, a shelf, or any similar object. Mounted to a Wall The ONT142R can be attached to a wall, to the top, back, or underside of a desk or table, or to some other surface using the optional Wall Mounting Bracket and screws.

Connecting the ONT142R to DC Power DC power for the Tellabs ONT142R can be provided by an optional desktop AC adapter (power brick) at the point of installation, or by a remote bulk DC power supply.

    The optical fiber cable and DC power cable are the fewest cables that will be connected to a properly installed ONT142R. But there may be many more if related equipment is at the install location and is connected to the ONT during the installation.
  • Page 22 There is no power switch. The ONT is designed to operate as long as DC power is applied and it has a working optical connection to the upstream OLT. The ONT142R has LED indicators that show the status of various ONT functions as it operates and the progress of ONT processes.

    Because the ONT142R may run for weeks or months without restarting, the system administrator can also push new firmware to the ONT142R at any time once it becomes available. This will likely be scheduled during the early morning hours to minimize the number of ONT users that might be inconvenienced while the new firmware downloads.
