SPECIAL MODE
Listenin to
and/or taping
Dolby-proce
ed
broadca t .
At any time,
you
can Ii
ten
to and simultaneously
record Dolby-processed
broadcasts simply as follows:
1. Fir t be
ure
that
your
recorder
is properly
calibrated
to the Model lOOA
as
described in the in truc-
tion for the ORMAL
Mode.
2. elect
the
FM tuner on your amplifier
input
selector, and set
your
amplifier' tape monitor switch
to
"tape."
3. et all
the
witches on
the Model lOOA to the
"*"
po ition
.
4. et
the lOOA'
s
INPUT and RECORD LEVEL
control to the previously marked
FM-calibration
position
.
Your
sy
tern i now
set
for
listening
to decoded
Dolby-proc
ssed
broadcasts.
At any
time,
you
may tape
a proce
ed
broadcast
simply
by
starting your
recorder.
While listening to
and/or
taping
a
Dolby-processed
broadca
t,
b
sure
not to disturb the Mod l
lOOA'
s
PUT
and
RECORD
LEVEL
control
,
and
the
output
1 v 1
control
on the FM tuner (if
any).
The resulting tape
should
be played back like
any
other Dolby-processed
tape,
with
the Model lOOA in the
ORMAL mode
and
the 01 E REDUCTIO in.
When the tape is played back, the decoding proce
s
reduce both the noise
of
the broadcast
and
that
added
by the taping.
ote: If
you are
recording in the
above manner on a
three-h
add ck, you will
not be
able
to monitor the
tape
while recording, because in the SP CIAL mode, the
TAP
position
of
the OUR
-TAPE
witches feeds
the
decoded
source signal
back to the
amplifier, not
the
ignal from the tape recorder
(as
is
the
case in
the
ORMALmode). In the OURCE po ition,
you
will
hear th Dolby-processed
ource,
without decoding.
Be ure not to
change
the MODE
swtich
to
ORMAL
when taping a
Dolby-processed broadcast.
Wer
you
to do
o, "double" Dolby-proce
sing would
occur to the ignal (the
already-proce sed broadcast
would pa through the
Model lOOA'
s
record processors),
and
a
strange- ounding
tape would
result.
Furthermore,
this
"double"
processed
signal would
be
undecodable
back to
a conventional signal.
Decoding and
copying Dolby-processed tapes
played from
a
second tape
deck.
Th Mod l lOOA
can
be
u
ed
to
decode
Dolby-
proce
d tap
s
played on another deck
connected
to
the
~propriate
auxiliary
inpu ts
of
your amplifier
or
receiv r. (To
record
on more than one
deck, con ult the
Appendix.)
t the same time, the deck
connected to the
15
Model lOOA
can
be u
ed
to
make copies of such tapes.
o
change
in
connection i
required.
Once the
controls are
properly
set,
the
signal
from
the
second
deck will be
fed
through the lOOA'
s
decoding
circuits and
back to the
amplifier
for
listening;
simul-
taneously, the
signal
from the Dolby-processed
tape
playing
on
the
econd
deck
will
be fed unaltered to the
deck
connected
to the
Model
lOOA for making
a
Dolby-processed
copy.
1. Select the
appropriate auxiliary
po
ition on
the
amplifier
input elector for
the
econd
deck.
2.
Set the amplifier's
tape
monitor
switch
to
"tape."
3.
Set the Model
lOOA's
MODE
switch
to SPECIAL,
and
all
controls except
the
MX
FILTER
so marked
to
the
"*"
positions.
4.
If the tape to b
played and/or copied
ha
a
Dolby
Level tone on
it,
thread
it onto
the
second
deck. If
not,
thr
ad
the Dolby Level
tape onto the econd
deck.
5.
Play the recorded Dolby
Level tone. A it play
,
adjust
the Model
lOOA'
RECORD LEVEL
control so
that the Dolby Level
meters read
to
the line.
If
both
meter don't read to the
line,
adjust
the appropriate
I PUT LEVEL
control o that they do.
6. If
steps
4
and 5 required the u e of
the Dolby
Level
tape,
remove it
from
the
econd deck and
thread
onto
it the tape to be
copied.
7.
Play
the
tape. If
you
wi h
to
make a copy,
imply
start
the deck
connected to the Model lOOA
recording
at
the
ame time.
When
li tening to and copying
Dolby-
proces
ed
tapes,
do
not
adjust
the
Model lOOA'
s
RECORD and INPUT
LEVEL control , or any
level
controls on either
recorder.
Thi
is es ential
to
ensure
proper decoding
of
the
tap for
listening
as
it plays, and
to
ensure
that the Dolby-proce
ed copy will
be made at
preci
ely
the
same
level
as
the
original.
The re ulting
tape
copy should
be
played
back like
any
other
Dolby-processed tape, with
the
Model lOOA
in the ORMAL
mode. When
the copy
is played back
with the 01 E RED
0
'
in,
the
decoding pro
s
reduce the noise
of both
the original
tape and that
added
by the
copy.
Note
·on copying Dolby-processed tapes:
1.
If
you are in
the
habit of
putting a
Dolby
Level
tone on
your
tapes,
do
o after completing step 5 above
by
copying the recorded
tone as it
play on the
econd
deck.
2.
If
you
are making the
copy on a
three-head deck
connected to the
lOOA,
you will not
be able to monitor
the tape
while
recording.
3.
Be
sure
not to
change the Model
lOOA'
s
MOD
switch
to ORMAL
while copying a
Dolby-proces ed tape.
