Installing adapters in the 9080-HEX system node
Find information about installing adapters.
About this task
Note: Installing this feature is a customer task. You can complete this task yourself, or contact a service
provider to complete the task for you. You might be charged a fee by the service provider for this service.
If your system is managed by the Hardware Management Console (HMC), use the HMC to complete
the steps for installing an adapter in the system. For instructions, see Installing a part by using the
HMC (www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/POWER10/p10haj/hmcinstall.htm).
If your system is not managed by an HMC, complete the steps in the following procedures to install an
adapter in the system.
Preparing the 9080-HEX system to install an adapter
To prepare the system to install an adapter, complete the steps in this procedure.
Before you begin
Attention: The NVMe JBOF adapter cannot be installed, removed, or replaced when the system
power is turned on. The system power must be turned off to service this adapter.
Procedure
1. If you are installing a cable adapter with the system power turned on, you must install the cable
adapter by using the HMC. Otherwise, you must install the cable adapter with the system power
turned off.
2. Ensure that the required software is installed to support the new feature. See the Power Systems
Prerequisites website.
3. If you are installing a cable adapter, ensure that the target slot is Unassigned in the I/O properties
field for the managed server you are working on.
4. If applicable, open the rack door at the rear of the system.
5. Review the following figures that show the locations of the adapter and cassette slots and the
locations of the LEDs for the adapters. The adapter cassettes are in the rear of the system.
The number of the adapter slots that are available in the system depends on the number of system
processors in the system. For the adapter placement information for the available slots in this
system, see Adapter placement rules and slot priorities for the 9080-HEX.
The cassette locations are P0-C0 - P0-C7. The adapter locations are P0-C0-C0 - P0-C7-C0.
