Description
2.1
Product overview
®
The Dräger PSS
7000 H Series is a self-contained breathing apparatus
that provides the wearer with respiratory protection using an open-circuit,
pressure-demand, compressed-air system.
2.2
Feature description
The carrying system has a height-adjustable carbon-composite backplate
that incorporates a sliding height-adjustable yoke that has three preset
positions. A flexible pivot joint located at the base of the backplate (in line
with the hip of the wearer) moves in response to the twisting and bending
of the wearer.
The pneumatic system uses the Dräger PSS
Item 6), the Dräger PSS
®
NFPA Flushing Lung Demand Regulator (3) and
an approved Dräger compressed-air cylinder. The first-stage regulator
supplies air from the cylinder through a medium-pressure hose (7) and a
quick coupling (2) to the lung demand regulator and mask. The first-stage
regulator also supplies air through a dual-pressure hose (4) to the Sentinel
TX H Gauge (1). Incorporated in the first-stage regulator is a RIC UAC
(rapid intervention crew universal air connection) (5), which is a male
coupling that allows emergency refilling of the air cylinder while the wearer
is breathing from the apparatus.
The apparatus uses the Dräger DHR 7000 face mask. The mask can be
fitted with the Dräger Prism HUD which is a wireless head-up display that
uses LEDs to provide breathing apparatus status information for the
wearer.
The face mask, lung demand regulator and HUD are each supplied with
separate instructions which contain further information about the product.
2.2.1
Sentinel TX H Gauge
The apparatus is fitted with the Sentinel TX H Gauge (Fig B) which
incorporates a mechanical pressure gauge. The gauge has a whistle (2)
which sounds at the end of service time to indicate low cylinder pressure –
the whistle is also referred to as the end-of-service-time indicator (EOSTI)
(see Section 8 for the EOSTI activation pressure).
The gauge has electronic functionality which is powered by two internal
batteries. A red LED behind the gauge face can be used to illuminate the
gauge by pressing button (1) when required. The red LED also flashes to
alert the wearer when the internal batteries have low power remaining.
The gauge is equipped with radio frequency (RF) communication circuitry
that allows reading and reprogramming of the gauge, and wireless
transmission of data to compatible devices:

Information that can be read from the gauge includes device identity,
a record of events (datalog), the firmware version, and the current
values for configurable parameters. Reading and reprogramming of
the gauge requires the Dräger PC Link Module which is a product
available from Dräger. (The parameters described in this document
are the default for the device.)
●
The gauge has a short range RF wireless transmitter which transmits
3

data to compatible devices which are within communication range.
When the apparatus is used with the Prism HUD, the transmitter sends
cylinder pressure and low battery signals to the HUD (see
Section 3.3.3 for further information).
The symbols on the gauge are explained in Section 2.5.
2.2.2
Compressed-air cylinders
The PSS
®
7000 H is compatible with composite material cylinders which
are rated at 4500 psi and have 30 to 60 minute capacities.
2.3
Intended use
When the PSS
®
7000 H breathing apparatus is used with an approved
lung demand regulator, face mask and compressed-air cylinder, it provides
4738
4738
a wearer with respiratory protection for working in contaminated or oxygen-
deficient conditions.
The cylinder, lung demand regulator, face mask and other accessories
used with this product must be certified Dräger components, assembled in
an approved configuration, otherwise the operation of the device may be
impaired. Contact Dräger for further information.
2.4
Approvals
®
The Dräger PSS
7000 H is certified to 42 CFR Part 84 by NIOSH and in
certain combinations to provide respiratory protection from military grade
chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards (CBRN). The series
is also certified by SEI to meet the requirements of NFPA 1981:2013. The
apparatus must only be used in conjunction with compressed-air cylinders
approved by NIOSH.
The TX H Gauge is approved for use with Dräger NIOSH and
NFPA 1981:2013 breathing apparatus, and has the following approvals:
●
UL913 Class I, II, Div.1 Groups C-G
●
Exia CAN/CSA C22.2 No.157
●
T3 (Ta = -30 to +60 °C)
●
The TX H Gauge complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is
4410
subject to the following two conditions: 1) This device may not cause
harmful interference, and 2) This device must accept any interference
received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.
2.5

Use
WARNING
Only trained and competent personnel should prepare and use breathing
apparatus. Ensure that any accessories, ancillary equipment and other
protective clothing items do not interfere with the apparatus and do not
create a safety hazard.
The effective working duration of the apparatus is dependent on the initial
3379
air supply available and the breathing rate of the wearer. Fill air cylinders
to their full rated pressure prior to use, and do not commence any
operation using a cylinder that is less than 90 percent full.
CAUTION
Do not apply excessive force or use tools to open or close a cylinder
valve, and do not drop or throw down the breathing apparatus.
Refer to the following additional information before preparing or using the
breathing apparatus:
