The SWITCHED
outlet is controlled by the front panel
POWER switch.
The
UNSWITCHED
outlet
(only on
the type 2 and

models) is not controlled by the POWER
switch.
Do not connect any electrical home appliance such as
an electric iron, fan, TV or other high-wattage equip-
ment to these ac outlets.
For customers
of the type 5 model
supplied with the
plug adaptor:
If necessary,
use the plug adaptor to
connect
the amplifier
to an
ac
outlet
in the house.
However, when
making
power connections
among
the
Sony components, this adaptor is not needed.
TO LISTEN TO AUDIO PROGRAM
SOURCES

Depress the POWER
switches of the amplifier and
connected source equipment to ON.

Press the appropriate FUNCTION
button.
For arecord program, press PHONO.
For a tuner program, press TUNER.
For aCD program connected to the CD jacks, press
CD.
For a taped program, press TAPE 1 or 2.
For a video taped program, press VIDEO 1 or 2.

For arecord program, select the cartridge type with
the CARTRIDGE
LOAD selector.

Start the program.

Adjust the ATTENUATOR
knob to your preference.
FM simulcasted programs
For countries with FM simulcast
programs, you can
enjoy certain TV programs with FM stereo sound.

Depress the POWER
switches of the amplifier and
connected source equipment to ON.

er or TV tuner.
Press the TUNER
button.
On the tuner, tune in the FM simulcast TV program.
Adjust

Select the program source to be listened to during
recording with the FUNCTION button.

Play the program sources to be recorded and to be
listened to.

Set the tape deck to the record mode.

Adjust the sound level to be listened to with the AT-
TENUATOR knob.
The ATTENUATOR,
BALANCE
and tone controls
and
the SUBSONIC
filter and BASS BOOST switches have
no effect on recording.
If you connect two tape decks to the amplifier, you can
record
the
same
program
onto
both
tape
decks
simultaneously.
The tape recording from tape deck 1 to tape deck 2 is
not possible.
Monitoring of a 3-head tape recorder
If your tape recorder has separate record and playback
heads, you can monitor the recording results. Press the
TAPE 1 (or 2) button to monitor the recording results of
the tape recorder 1 (or 2). Press again to release it, and
the source
sound
will be heard.
Be sure to keep the
monitor
switch
of the
tape
recorder
in the TAPE
position.
VIDEO OPERATION
HI-FI VIDEO RECORDING

Depress the POWER switches of the amplifier and
connected source equipment to ON.

Select the desired program source with the AUDIO
REC OUT SELECTOR switch.
For a record program, set to PHONO.
For a tuner program, set to TUNER.
For a CD program, set to CD.
For a video program connected to VIDEO 2 jacks, set
