The Farnell MI mains inverter power units are hi gh
efficiency
s mall si ze d.c. power supplies utilising
the DOLS
(direct
off line swi tching) techn ique in
which
the bulky mains trans former and heats inks of the con
ventional series regulator supply are eliminated.
This
technique offers three important advantages
- 1)
greatly reduced size, 2) much less weight and 3) higher
efficiency.
Isolation is maintained by a small trans
former in the
inverter s tage.
Voltage adjus tment is provi ded by means of a trimmer
potent i ome ter accessible through a hole
in the front
panel of the unit or is programmab le by an external
res
istance.
Overcurrent and overvol tage protect i on are prov i ded and
are factory preset.
The current limiting circuit auto
matically resets i tself on removal of the overload.
To
reset the overvoltage crowbar circuit it is necessary to
momentari ly di sconnect the mai ns input.
The uni ts will operate at full load in ambi ent tempera
tures from 0°C to 55c.
Provis ion is made for remote sens i ng of the load to
correct for voltage drop in the load connecti ng leads
Uni ts may be connected directly in series.
Units may be
connected in paral lel as long as the crowbar interl ink
terminals are connected together.
Certain models also feature a remote on/off facility.
Appl i cation of a 5V s ignal will disab le the output.
