2 1. Press the LE FT b utto n of the TR IG SOU RCE
witeh . Aga in , seq uentia lly press all of the VERT MODE
u ttons,
Notice tha t the d isplay is aga in stabie in all
ositions, as in the previous step .
22 . Press the RIGHT butto n of the TRIG SOURCE
switch . Sequentially press all of the Vï=RT MODE buttons
and n oti ce that a stabie display cannot be obtained in any
position. Th is is because the re is no input signa I connected
to the right vertica l unit . Return the TR IG SOU RCE switch
to VERT MODE . Remove calibrator signa I from left
vertica l unit and conneet it to right vertical unit. Repeat
steps 20 to 22 . The trigge r signa l w ill come from right
vertica l, and if the LEFT button is pressed of the TR IG
SOU RCE switch the d isp lay is not stabie because there is
no input signal co nnected to the left vertical. Return the
TRIG SOURCE sw it ch to VERT MODE.
Horizontal Deflection System
23. Position the start of the sweep to the left graticule
line with the time-base unit position control. Disconneet
the input signais .
24. Conneet a 10X probe to the input of the right
/erti cal uni
t. Set the right vertical unit for a deflection
factor of 10 volts /d ivision and set the VERT MODE sw itch
to RIGHT . Set the ti m e-base un it for a sweep rat e of five
m illiseconds /d ivisio n .
25. Co n nee t the probe ti p t o a line-vol t age so u ree . The
disp lay shou ld show th ree complete cycles ove r the 10
div isions wi t h in 0.3 div isio n . A correct d isplay indi cat es
that the 76 13 Ho rizonta l Deflect ion System and the
time-base p lug-in un it are co rrectly calibrated. If the d isp lay
is outsid e the given to leranee, eithe r the 7613 o r the
time-base u nit needs to be recalibrat ed. Refe r to the
Calibration section of the Serv ice manual, and to the
t ime-base un it manual for adj ustment procedure.
NOTE
Th is step is based on an accura te 60-hertz fine
frequency. Fo r o th er fine freq uencies, th is procedu re
wil! need to be changed accord ingfy.
26 . Disconneet the probe fr om the line-v oltage sou ree
and the right vertical unit. Set the V E RT MOD E switch to
LEFT and set the time-base unit for a sweep rate of 0.5
millisecond/division . Disconneet all cables.

Storage Operation (Variable-persistence)
27 . Conneet the 4 V Calib rator signal to the input
connecto r of the lef t vertica l un it, and set the deflection
fact o r for one volt /d ivision . Se t t he ho rizontal plug-in un it
f or single sweep ope ration at 0.5 mill isecond /division. Be
sure that the ho rizon ta l uni t is t riggered.
28. Press the STORE button (the NON -STORE switch
button should release ). The CRT screen will be flooded
positive . Turn the PERSISTENCE control to approximately
midrange.
29 . Press the Reset butto n on the hor izonta l plug-in
unit. One sweep will be generated , and a d isplay should be
visible , b ut will fade out w ithi n a few seconds. Increase the
PE RSISTENCE contro l setting (cou nterclockwise) if a
display of longe r retentio n is required. Increase the
STORED INT E NS IT Y setting if a brighter display is
required. If there is no d isp lay visible increase the
INTENSITY control setting, and press the Reset button.
30. Press the ERASE button, the CRT should turn
positive and erase . Press the Reset button on the horizontal
plug-in unit and a stored display will appear on the CRT
screen . Press the SAVE button, the display is stored and no
other sweep or change in pos ition wil I affect the display.
The SAVE switch will loek out al l functions except the
STORED INTENSITY control and the SAVE TIME
contro l. When t h e SAVE TIME is turned counterclockwise
(into the sw itch dete nt) the d isplay is stored at the
Maximum t ime. Turn ing th e SAVE TI ME control clockwlse
wil l dec rease the time a stored d isplay is ret ained on the
CRT. When the d isplay is no t be ing used turn the SAVE
TIME contro l counterclockw ise, (the d isplay will not be
visible on the screen), the inf o rm at io n has not been lost or
destroyed. Turn the SAVE TIME control clockwise until a
display is visible when needed . When the instrument is in
the SAVE mode and the SAVE TIME control is
counterclockwise and into the detent, the instrument can
be turned off without losing any stored information. Turn
the instrument on aga in and turn the SAVE TI ME control
clockwise unt il display appears. In the MAX detent the
stored display can not be viewed.

0.1 volt/d ivision. Not ice t h at a square-wave di splay is n ot
visible, since the deflecti on exc eeds the scan area of the
CRT.
