Tire service life
The service life of t ires depends on a lot of
different things including proper installation
and balancing, correct tire pressur e and driv-
ing sty le.

Tread Wear Indicator (TWI)
The or igi nal t ires on your vehicle have
1/ 16 inch (1.6 mm) hig h "wea r indica-
tors"<=:>

run ning across the tread . De-
pend ing on the make, the re wi ll be six to eight
of them evenly placed arou nd the ti re. Marks
on the t ire sidewall (for example "TWI" or
othe r symbols) ind icate the positions of the
t read wear indicators. Worn ti res must be re-
placed. Diffe rent f igures may apply in oth er
count ries

Tire pressure
Incorrect t ire pressure causes premature wear
and can cause sudden tir e blow-o ut . For t his
reason, tir e pressure must be checked at least
once a month

Driving style
Driving fast around curves, heavy accelerat ion
and hard braki ng increase tire wear.
Wheel balancing
The w heels on new vehicles are balanced .
However, various situati ons dur ing everyday
driv ing can cause them to become unba l-
anced, resulti ng in vib rat ions you can usually
f eel th rough th e steer ing whee l.
Unbalanced w heels m ust be rebalanced to
avoid excessive wear on steering , suspension
