- The inflating airba g will hit the child
safety seat or infant carrier wit h great
f orce and w ill smash t he child safety seat
and child against the backrest, cente r
arm rest, door or roof.
- Never install a rearward facing child
saf ety seat on the front passenger seat
unless the PASSENGER AIR BAG OFF
light com es on and stays on.
If
the PAS-
SENGER AIR BAG OFF ligh t does not
come on and stay on, the inflating airbag
will hit the child safety seat or infant car-
rier with great force and will smash the
child safety seat and child against the
backrest, door or roof. Have the airbag
system inspected immediately by your
authorized Audi dealer.

WARNING
Objects between you and the airbag will
increase the risk of injury in a crash by in-
terfering with the way the airbag unfolds
or by being pushed into you as the airbag
inflates.
- Never hold th ings in your hands or on
your lap when t he vehicle is in use.
- Never transport items on or in the area
of the front passenger seat. Objects
could move into the area of the front air-
bags dur ing braking or other sudden ma-
neuver and become dangerous projec-
ti les that can cause serious personal in-
jury if the airbags inflate.
- Never place or attach accessories or oth-
er objects (such as cup holders, tele-
phone brackets, large, heavy or bul ky ob-
jects) on the doors, over or near the area
marked "AIRBAG" on the steering wheel,
instrument panel, seat backrests or be-
tween those areas and yourself. These
objects could cause injury in a crash, es-
pecially when the airbags inflate.
- Never recline the front passenger's seat
to transport objects. Items can also
move int o the area of the side airbag or
the front airbag dur ing braking or in a
sudden maneuver . Objects near the air -

bags can become projectiles and cause
inj ury, partic ularly when the seat is re-
clined.

WARNING
The fine dust created when airbags deploy
can cause breathing prob lems for people
with a history of asthma or other breath-
ing cond itions.
- To reduce the risk of breath ing problems,
those with asthma or other respiratory
conditions shou ld get fresh air right
away by getting out of the vehicle or
open ing windows or doors.
- If you are in a collision in which airbags
deploy, wash your hands and face with
mild soap and wate r before eat ing.
- Be careful not to get the dust into your
eyes, or into any cuts or scratches .
- If the residue should get into your eyes,
f lush t hem w ith wate r.
Monitoring
the
Advanced
Airbag
System

Airbag monitoring indicator light
Two separate indicators monitor the function
of the Advan ced Airbag System: the airbag
monitoring indicator light and the
PASSEN -
GER AIR BAG OFF
light.
The Advanced Airbag System (including the
electron ic contro l unit, sensor circu its and sys-
tem wir ing) is monitored cont inuously to
make sure that it is functioning properly
whenever the ignition is on. Each time you
turn on the ignition, the airbag mon itoring in-
dicator light
I
will come on for a few seconds
(self diagnostics).
The system mu st be inspected when th e
indicator light
I :
- does not come on when the ignition is
switched on,
- does not go out a few seconds after you
have switched on t he ignition, or
