OPERATION OF THE TAPE READER
The
top drawer in the desk
console, which is
part
of
the
Automatic
Send-
Receive
(ASH)
mode

the
tape
Reader unit
.
The
t~p
e
Reader
is
operated
by
means
of
six
pu
shbuttons
and
three toqgle switches.
(See
Fig
ure
5)
.
Their
operation
is
exp~ained
be
low.
READER CONTROLS

.
This
pus~button
applies
power
to the
mo
tor when a tape
is
in place. Pressing
this
pu
shbutton
will
cause
the
tape
to
move
through
the
Fleader head
so
that
the
Reader
Cdn
read
taoe
infor~3tion
into the Printer.
There
is
a
·
slight
delay
after
the
RUN
pu
shbutton
is
pressed before
the tape starts
to run. This is to
allow
the
Reade
r
lam
p
in
tne
Reader
head
to
come
up
to
full
brilliance.
If
you
r
Printer
is in the
Ol~
LINE
mode
,
but
not connected (READY light not
on)
,
the
tape will
not run
when
the
HUN
pushbutton
is pr
essed.
OCF
.
Tu
rns
off power to
the
Reader and causes

t
to
stop
reading
while
in
any
of
the
operating modes.
BACKS
PACE.
Backs
up
the tape
one
character
each time this
pushbutton
is
pressed.
This
action
will
not
cause

read

the Printer,
but will
cause
the
Reader

to come on, if
it
is not already on,
a nd
remain
on
after
the
backspacing
has been
accomp
lished.

This

Reader lamp will come
on, if
it

has
been accomplished

READING TAPE
Lift the
Unoer tape
guide
(over the
sprocket
wheel)
on

the
front
of the
Reader drawe
r.
Insert the
beginning
of
t
he
tape
in
the
bottom
tape
guide
so that the teeth in tne
sprocket wheel mesh
witn
tape sprocket holes.
The tape will run
through
the
Reader
head
fro
m
left
to
ri
ght
.
Nith the tape correctly
aligned with the
spro~ket
wheel,
close
the
unper
tape
guide to hold
tne
tape firmly in
place
.
Check ou
t all
functions
of
the
t~pe
Header
with
your
Printer
in
the LOCAL
mode.
The
tape
Reader will read
and
transmit data
at
the speed
set on tne Printer RATE switch.
To
start a
remote reader,
send
a
I~ead
er
On
signal
(CTL
Q).
To
turn
off a
remote reader,
press
the
I
NTERRUPT pushbutton
.
