The softener resin exchanges the hardness ions for softer ions. The softened water then returns to the control valve where it is directed into the service lines. 7.5 gpm, use existing NPT connector with rigid drain line. There must be an air gap at the end of the drain line to prevent siphoning of wastewater. Length of drain line should be 15’ or less. 14) Slowly turn the INLET knob of the bypass, counterclockwise, to a point approximately 1/3 of the way between “Bypass” and “Service” positions (Figure 2, Page 5) to release the remaining air from the tanks.
