To
lock the steering
af t er yo u have removed t he ignit ion key, turn the
steer ing wheel in either direction until you hear it lock into place. You
should always lock the steering wheneve r you leave your vehicle . This
makes vehicle theft even more diffic ult=> & .

After sw itching the ign ition on, the need les move all the way up and
t hen down .
If it is difficult to tur n the key after yo u have inserted it into the igni-
tion lock , turn the steering wheel back and fort h. This w ill take the
load off t he stee ring lock mech a nism and yo u will be ab le to tur n the
key free ly and start the eng ine.
Starting

WARNING

Never remove the key from the ignition lock while the vehicle
is moving. The steering wheel will lock causing loss of control.

If you have to leave your vehicle· even for just a minute·
alway s remove the ignition key and take it with you . This is espe-
cially important if you are going to leave children behind in the
vehicle. The children could start the engine or use other vehicle
controls . Unsupervised use of vehicle controls (for example, power
windows) can cause serious personal injuries.

Tips
If the vehicle batte ry has been discon nected and then reconnected,
t hen yo u m ust leave the key in position @ for about 5 seconds befo re
you can start the eng ine. •
Starting
the engine
The engine can only be started with your original Audi
key.
On veh icles wit h R t ronic, t he engine can be st arted in th e
ne utra l posit ion N and in each gear (1 · 6 and R).
- Set the par king brake=> & .
- On vehicles with manua l transmission , f ully depress the
clutc h peda l.
- Press and hold the brake peda l.
